David Moyes is entirely comfortable waiting to see whether a new contract will be offered but he is worried about the players in that situation.
He believes they could find life difficult not knowing whether he is going or staying.
West Ham have made it clear over recent weeks that – as is usually the case when a manager comes towards the end of his current deal – they will wait and see how things go during the remainder of the season before making any decision on his future.
Another European season and a top ten position currently will probably have them in a happier mood than perhaps they were at this time last season although there can be no certainties about anything with a new technical director in Tim Steidten now at the club and looking to the future.
Moyes himself, commenting on the situation, declared among a scenario where fans appear split ‘I’m hugely comfortable with it. I’d work with no contract. The contract isn’t important for me, it’s enjoying the job and as long as I’m hopefully getting enough wins to keep the board satisfied then that is what I have to do. Over the three years we’ve done pretty well.’
On how the players could feel, however, he added: ‘That is a different story. Knowing what is happening and with people in charge is important. ‘I am happy to do it and I’ve got a great relationship with the club so I don’t see any reason to panic about it.
‘We’ve got an awful lot of new players as well. It is another story. There is more change at clubs every year happening. We’ve got a lot of new players who are just getting bedded in really.’
