Moyesball Mk2 as West Ham Face Everton Reset

A penny for David Moyes’ thoughts on what’s currently happening at West Ham.

There’s a strange sense of irony—though Moyes might call it justice—that Everton could not only put the final nail in Graham Potter’s coffin, but also make life deeply uncomfortable for chairman David Sullivan.

Moyes will no doubt feel he was unfairly released twice by the Hammers, Sullivan in particular. The official line is that he chose not to renew his contract at the London Stadium, but let’s be honest—he jumped before he was pushed.

David Moyes

David Moyes will be relishing the chance to give West Ham a bloody nose

Now, the former Irons boss must be licking his lips at the thought of pushing Everton closer to Champions League qualification while simultaneously leaving West Ham mired in the relegation zone.

Potter’s promised attractive football has failed to materialise, and the club now look closer to appointing Nuno Espirito Santo—renowned for his pragmatic, defensive approach. Sound familiar?

The Toffees boss must be laughing at the irony: he lost his job in pursuit of so-called “sexy football,” yet his former employers are preparing to dive straight back into another version of Moyesball.

Honestly, you couldn’t make it up.

Everton vs West Ham is 29/09/25 8pm

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

More West Ham moaning is done on a daily basis here 👇👇

Moyes had a team that was built on a certain Declan Rice !
Once he left it was all downhill !
Moyes transfers in with the Rice money were awful .
    Alvarez , Ward Prowse , Cornet ….. there!s 75 million !
Moyes had his time and we were all thankful for the trophy he bought to the club …. End of !

  • Zahama says:

Moyes had his faults as a manager – but he has always struck me as a decent human being – so the idea that he would relish pushing us further into the relegation zone is rather mean spirited

  • J says:

Let’s get it right Moyes was forced out of our club by Sullivan putting the squeeze on him, not offering him the contract he deserved, undermining him by bringing in the disaster that was Tim Steidten etc but ultimately it has to be said Sullivan only ever reacts to fan pressure. If the fans want a manager out Sullivan will oblige. Sullivan will take any scapegoat he can get to deflect any of the flak from himself. Moyes was a perfectly good manager , 6th, 7th, 9th place finishes, on top of 3 years playing in Europe. When you think many teams league form suffered when they play mid week in Europe on top of premier league that’s no mean feat. The West Ham collective turned against him though despite this. The counter attacking football wasn’t sexy enough for them, they wanted the passing game. Well now we’ve got that under Potter but unless you’re Manchester City it’s not too easy to play is it. So Potter will be gone soon as fan pressure once again leads Sullivan to bring in the next manager to be in the firing line.

A case in point as to why our club needs renaming to West Ham Divided.

Because that is a total nonsense, and you have rose tinted glasses on J… Unless you didn’t actually watch any of the last 18 months of Moyes…

Some of what you say holds true, but your “be careful what you wish for” claptrap shows you have a short memory.

      • J says:

Nonsense. Moyes got the best out of the players at his disposal in my opinion.

        • Mr Buddy Lurve says:

Ha ha ha! So you obviously didn’t sit there and watch any of the games then, J? Because if you had, you wouldn’t be writing this.

  • Scotty G says:

Players deteriorate after they arrive and improve when they leave. I wonder what that tells the board. Pay the money and get a manager. Get a stadium that loyal supporters can be proud of and enjoy. Sit back and watch West Ham grow. Well I can dream.
Do you remember when everybody thought we were mad to pay out so much for a goalkeeper in Phil Parkes and the difference he made? You get what you pay for.

  • Martin C says:

Moyes is most of the reason we are where we are now. He created a defensive team that couldn’t defend, an aged squad with no pathway for young players. Also he wasn’t released, he had a contract in front of him that he refused to sign in December which was subsequently withdrawn. We just need to have a little more patience with new managers these days. You’re not going to repair what Moyes has done to us in a short space of time.

  • Hammeroo says:

Well if we really are getting closer to appointing Nuno as our next manager we might want to hurry up a bit. Because “Four Key Aston Villa Players Lose Faith in Unai Emery as Sack Update Emerges” is now on givemesport.com website. It doesn’t go as far as mentioning any possible replacements at this stage but maybe we should be worried. Aston Villa would certainy attract interest.

  • KJ says:

Most enjoyable football I’ve seen us play in the last 10 years was when there were no fans during Covid and we were comfortably sitting back and soaking pressure before rocketing out on the counter with Antonio. Why care about possesion when you get exciting breaks and score actual goals and wins?! But it got way less comfortable and more frustrating at the end though, after Dawson left maybe, then he also lost some good assistants and the whole drama with Steintden meddling with the players didnt help anyone.

Can’t blame Moyes for not wanting to accept having no say in transfers in his last contract offer with us, and now Everton are benefiting and playing some pretty decent football, so fair play to him and yeah it was frustrating to watch toward the end but there’s no denying he was the most successful at winning we had for a good amount of time.

  • Hammer Ed says:

I don’t think Silva would want to work for Sullivan and Brady Gonzo!
The thing is those two deserve relegation and we could get rid of them both if the worst happens…

  • Morty says:

Remember he was offered a new contract at Christmas that year with West Ham 6th in the league, in the last 16 of the Europa League and having just beaten Arsenal and Spurs away. He didn’t sign the contract because he would have lost final say on transfers. What happened after Christmas was irrelevant as he had mentally already left, look at his inactivity in his final transfer window. He must have felt so insulted after the success he brought to the club

  • Pete says:

    Moyesball mk4 you mean.
Floppy was mk2 and Potter was mk3. All horrible crimes against entertaining football

  • kcockayne says:

All very true, but I feel that we will miss out on Santo through our procrastination !
