Moysie clears up all Antonio questions

David Moyes has answered all the questions being asked of Mikey Antonio.

Some of us – perhaps a little guiltily in our own case – suggested that he may be better employed using the No9 as a super sub in tonight’s game as a way of helping him restore his form levels.

But the boss is clearly having no truck with such a suggestion and has kicked all the anxieties into touch before a ball has been kicked.

Having said that we hope he pushes Jarrod Bowen closer to him as he did against Chelsea in the second half of our victory over the south west Londoners.

But clearly he has no plans to rest and he is probably completely right as one goal often sparks the revival we and the player in particular are looking for.

Speaking at his pre-match presser the boss declared: He’s been amazing for us, ever since we put him at centre-forward he’s been unbelievable.

The run of goals he was on when we came out of lockdown, his pride at trying to be a goalscorer and turning himself into a No9 and I think when you become a No9 you go through phases when you can’t score and the secret is to keep going.

He’s a key member of the team and when his form is good, the team plays much better too. Whether that means he’s scoring or not scoring, his all-round form is important to how we play, so it would be good to get him right back to that top form.

I’m sure he’s not too far away – I’ve seen signs it’s just beginning to click for him again so hopefully we’re not far away.”

  1. Umm, yes – I think you can say he’s not been playing well for quite a while. He’s nowhere near as dangerous as he was earlier in the Season – what that’s down to I don’t know. On Saturday against Burnley he was on his heels and didn’t get into threatening positions. I don’t know If I t’s just him not understanding the role, or being a bit slow of thought or what! 🙄

Unfortunately, we are where we are and there’s no alternative, so we have to put up with the frustration for the foreseeable future! 🙄
