The Manchester Evening News claim that West Ham have already made an enquiry into signing Castellano and that and Pep Guardiola has backed him for big success.

Turkish side Besiktas are also thought to be interested and apparently NYCFC have allegedly slapped a £15 million asking price on the player.

However, we have been told – as has to be the case – that enquiries and bids aren’t currently on the table at West Ham until the manager gives a list of targets.

And there would be real nerves about buying a player from an MLS club which operates at a far lower level than the Premier League.

That Besiktas are also interested is not a particularly good sign either with the Turkish league again being at a much lower level than the PL.

It remains to be seen if there is any serious interest in the player or whether he is seen as a possible loanee until the end of the season at a time when it is tricky to buy well known quality operators.

We’ll hold our horses on this one.
