New deal for Paqueta: Can Hammers ditch £85M clause?

New deal for Paqueta

Rumours are circulating that West Ham are potentially working on structuring a new contract for Lucas Paqueta. However, it’s important to clarify that Claret & Hugh cannot verify the authenticity of these reports.

No confirmation has yet been sought from our sources within the club, and it is presumed that if negotiations were indeed ongoing with the Brazilian, the club would maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Nonetheless, the prospect of renegotiating with Paqueta is incredibly exciting.

Securing a new long-term deal with the player would undoubtedly be great news for the club. While it remains uncertain whether Paqueta and his representatives would be open to such an approach. The present moment seems opportune to broach the subject.

Paqueta may feel a sense of loyalty towards West Ham, given the support he has received from both the club and the fans during his FA investigation for betting irregularities.

Additionally, a significant aspect to consider is Paqueta’s looming £85 million release clause set to be activated in July 2024. Given the midfielder’s exceptional form for the Hammers, he is now arguably valued well beyond £100 million.

If the club can somehow negotiate and eliminate the release clause, it could potentially surpass the excitement generated by the news of Jarrod Bowen’s recent contract extension.

Whilst there are not a multitude of clubs who can afford an £85m transfer fee. The player is talented enough to tempt the richest super-clubs in world football. It may well be that the continuing prospect of the FA investigation, is enough to dissuade many from bidding.

It’s a risk from West Ham’s point of view . . . but if we get this one right, the rewards will be worth it.
