WEST HAM UNITED tried, and failed, with a bid last year to bring another Brazilian recruit to London Stadium. The Hammers held advanced talks with the player and his club in 2024 but the deal faltered then reportedly on personal terms.
Fast forward a year and a half and the Hammers are reported to be the ‘mystery’ unknown Premier League side who have made a €15 million bid for defender Fabricio Bruno – who only joined Crucero in January after paying €7 million to Flamengo for his signature. which ‘d be a pretty cool 100% profit for the Brazilian side.
According to sportwitness.co.uk, West Ham’s offer is about to go ‘formal’:
“A Premier League club have returned to the market for Fabrício Bruno, who was seriously targeted by West Ham last year. The information comes from Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, who revealed in a video report that the defender is the subject of an offer worth €15m from England.”
West Ham returning for Brazilian defender?
Whilst the identity of the Premier League club has not yet been confirmed, it’d seem likely that it is a second bite at the cherry by West Ham, now desperate for a decent defensive recruit in the January window:
“Nicola noted that he has not been able to confirm the identity of the English club. Still, he highlighted that Fabrício Bruno held advanced talks with West Ham in 2024. At the time, the Hammers had an agreement with Flamengo on a €15m deal, but the move collapsed after the player rejected the salary package.
Because of that unfinished chapter, it is possible that West Ham is behind the new approach.”
In case you don’t remember – Bruno is 29 and “a strong, ball – playing central defender known for his aerial ability” as we put it last year. Nearly thirty years old – sound perfect for a £13 million Hammers bid. Some things never change.
Has reasonable injury history but does reach 30 in January.
Charlie Cresswell (approx same cost) or Shea Charles (if available) look to have much more mileage.
Both classified as homegrown and would have better resale value.
Can’t believe that Westham would buy an old player from a slow league , oh wait Sullivan shenanigans again . Let’s waste some more money .
Seeing as he’s nearly 30 years old then maybe it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie for this one. Uprooting from Brazil and adapting to the challenges of the Premier League at that age is a prime example for the saying ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’.
