Today’s press conference featuring head coach Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten, the director of football, ushered in a brand new era for West Ham.

In what was a first for the Hammers, this dual presser highlighted that West Ham has now embraced the continental management model.

In many respects, it was unusual not to see David Moyes holding court, but it was also refreshing to witness two footballing professionals in Lopetegui and Steidten, who were blatantly unified in the club’s vision.

There was evident camaraderie between the two men, and both were visibly comfortable with their clearly defined roles. Despite the separate mandates for their positions, both were keen to stress their willingness to work together hand in hand, which showed in their chemistry.

The two men covered everything, ranging from transfers to tactics, and even spoke about Lucas Paqueta’s future role at the club. It’s fair to say that this was not the usual bland press conference; there was plenty for West Ham fans to get excited about, which we’ll feature in more detail over the coming days.

For now, it was a novel yet reassuring window into the workings of Steidten and Lopetegui’s relationship. For too long, West Ham has seemed fractured and divided at the management level, so today’s presser was an exciting start.

It was an impressive performance in front of the assembled press and one which has us very excited about what appears to be a unified management team.
