West Ham are believed to be in talks with a young midfielder from the Belgium pro-league with discussions at an advanced stage. The player only joined Club Brugge in April 2024 and is reportedly interested in joining the Hammers. The Swiss player, aged 23 this summer, was identified by Kyle Macaulay and if signed will fit the profile of exciting, young pacy players West Ham are looking to bring to the club.
The dynamic midfielder in question is believed to be Ardon Jashari who has already appeared for his international side at both senior and U-21 level. A defensive midfielder, Jashari has a value in the region of €25million (Transfermarkt) so it remains to be seen how West Ham will go about raising the funds to bring him to East London.
Another player, Morten Frendrup has also been mentioned. The Danish international has made 34 appearances this season for Genoa in Serie A. He has been described as an all rounder ranking sixth in the Italian league for duels won and eighth for interceptions.
Elsewhere, Nayef Aguerd – as per Martin’s earlier article – has informed West Ham that he wishes to leave in the summer.
The Moroccan international, now aged 29 played 21 times on loan for Real Sociedad this season, and could command a high transfer fee, with two years currently left on his contract.
Manchester United have been linked, but its more likely the centre-back will direct his agents, Canterasport, to pursue a move to Spain or the Saudi League.
All of this overt speculation means nothing if we don’t act quickly and efficiently in the market, pay the price for who we really want, beat the opposition. Swift and decisive would be a nice change Sully.
Maybe these lower fee players will mean less haggling, but given WHU history in recruiting, that is definitely not a given.
The midfielders they are looking at sound exciting. Ally them with our best players, returning Academy loanees and current younger squad players (Guilherme, Irving?) and you can see the rapid change which could happen. I think with such additions, then the good players we already have will also play better – effectively i guess a better team balance as many comments have said. I know who i would wish to retain but I promised not to keep repeating myself.
Aguerd moved on _ £35m / Koni de Winter in at £25m.
