Joe Hart’s World Cup place looks in danger after a top performance from Adrian at Manchester City on Sunday.
David Moyes made it clear that he believed the Spaniard had done very well and it would be a surprise were he not to keep the sweater for the game against Chelsea at the weekend.
Hart has had a nightmare season at the Hammers, shipping 30 goals and it seems more than likely that Adran will now inherit the No 1 job just as he did from Darren Randolph last season.
It is a huge blow for Hart, coming just a few days after the World Cup draw was made for next summer’s finals in Russia.
The World Cup-winning keeper Gordon Banks has already raised concerns about Hart, suggesting Jack Butland should be England’s No 1.
But whilst Hart’s anxieties increase Adrian may now have the opportunity to impress the Spanish team boss Julen Lopetegui Argote, himself a former ‘keeper.
I agree number 32. We shouldn’t be wasting £100k a week on a keeper little better than that we already have. This money should be reinvested in outfield players. If we shore up the defence and keep possession better then the need for a top class keeper reduces. Only spend big on a younger keeper such as Pickford where you’ve some hope of recouping your outlay.
Agree Jimbo but I don’t think Hart is a lil better especially on current form & we got him for leading & organisation Adrian did better job against City & Spurs. I think they thought Hart was a lil better & his name & England status would help marketing
I was never for the move at the time we needed defensive reinforcements not a GK & even if Randolph left still we could have got Szczesny for paid for Hart for a year loan & wages. Or gone after 18yo Lafont etc.
Adrian has to start & we need to settle with a spine & 11-14 regular starters
Moyes said when players get the chance they have to take it, Adrian took his chance against City so if Moyes doesn’t stick with him then questions have to be asked about Hart’s contract because on performance Adrian couldn’t really have done much more plus unless we sell him we know Adrian will be with us next season he is our player, if Hart stayed with us he would be taking a huge paycut not sure how well he would perform under those circumstances. I would take Adrian over Hart as things stand and would look at finding a new reserve keeper or if Trott is upto it use him as reserve for next season.
Agree 32 and said earlier if Moyes doesn’t start Adrian then he contradicts himself & everything he has said.
Unless like u said & others as raised in contract he must play in PL if fit. If that’s the case then be ridiculous to do coming off a not great past 2 seasons. I’ve thought he gets it bc wages & England spot. If there is a clause send him back & use his £150k wages we pay £130k of & get a younger #2 can get a decent #2 for £2-£4m.
I’ve said before I think the defence a more comfortable w Adrian & it looked that way against City & 2 of Adrian’s saves that were brilliant didn’t count bc offside. But he worked w Rice Ogbonna had his best game in recent memory. He is West Ham player & has been a great servant since coming from Betis. He didn’t do anything to lose his spot he had a better season last season then Hart & end of last season he was really good w bad defense. Stats back him he took the #2 spot w grace & continued to work hard so now its Hart’s turn
Don’t think its a coincidence we had best performance of season w Adrian in goal. If you trust your GK u play better we need to keep that spine.
I actually think He hasn’t got better after being benched twice he continued to work hard, showed passion & character & gave him perspective & drive.
If it can down to selling Adrian or keeping Hart we would be mad to sell Adrian.
I’ve just been listening to the Alan Brazil show on Talksport and he’s been going on about this for hours. Loads of callers have almost phoned in saying how bad Hart is and almost universally agreed that Adrian should keep the Keeper’s place.
But I think Moyes will start Joe Hart against Chelsea, I don’t think he’s done much wrong and has done a pretty good job behind a poor defence – Adrian’s ok but he’s not top class, he had a good game against Man City but I’d still go with Joe Hart – only a personal opinion but there you go!
But Adrian has a lot more passion, he organises the defence and motivates the players. While Hart doesn’t really and just lets in goals. Remember Hart has had Man City’s team and England defending him, now he has got West ham so he is really being tested now. Unfortunately he us and him he seems to be rubbish.
