New normal in summer transfer window

|

We are likely to see a suppressed transfer market when the transfer window opens in late July.

The Premier League is yet to formally vote on the opening and closing dates of the summer transfer window but it is likely to open 24 hours after the completion of the top-flight league on Monday 27th July and close as late as 19th October allowing lower divisions to trade with the Premier League beyond FIFA’s preferred date closure date of 5th October.

Not that we are likely to the levels of business or prices we have seen in previous summers, while the European elite clubs might not be affected, more other clubs including West Ham will feel the pinch and prices could be suppressed as much 50%  in a depressed market.

West Ham is unlikely to set a transfer budget having already committed £13.5m for the permanent transfer of Tomas Soucek if the Hammers stay in the Premier League. You can ignore stories of big-name players or expensive transfers linked to the Hammers,  rumours such as Lingard and Jones have already been denied as nonsense.

David Moyes will undoubtedly need to sell players not featuring in his plans to buy his buys are likely to come from lower English divisions and foreign leagues as he looks to replicate the Redbull model.

The new normal in the summer transfer window will be one will have not experienced before.
