New report suggests ‘incoming’ as Hammers plan to activate release clause

The first transfer window – primarily arranged for those clubs participating in FIFA’s club World Cup championship – has come and gone without troubling the Hammers’ lawyers or accountants. The main event kicks off next week although of course clubs can wheel and deal in the meantime.

West Ham seem to be staggering into life: Reports suggest one of their long-held targets might be within touching distance. Kevin Lomónaco, the Argentinian centre back, is today the subject of a new sportwitness.co.uk article: ‘West Ham advance for signing in recent days’ – quite whatever that means- detailing:

“West Ham are willing to exercise the centre-back’s $20m [€17.5m] release clause. Club Atlético Independiente’s coaching staff want to keep their player but are aware of the possibility of losing him. Their management are clear that he will only leave if there’s an offer of $20m.

Radio Marca journalist Santiago Narváez took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report on the Hammers and Real Betis. He says West Ham have made advances to secure the Argentine’s services in ‘recent days’.”

Which would correspond to the noise surrounding Nayef Aguerd’s likely sale: One in, one out would certainly bolster West Ham’s back line and finally bring in ‘the fourth man’ – another centre back who, at just 23 would be a significant upgrade for West Ham’s centre back contingent. Considering the number of goals shipped last year, Lomónaco would be a big step in the right direction.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

“Considering the number of goals shipped last year”
I assume you are talking about 2024.
In 2025, Under Potter, West Ham averaged less than 1.22 goals per game in the Prem.

Would he improve us though , is he good enough for PL

I’m interested in how this guy would be a significant upgrade ? Yes our centre backs are all fairly shit, but this just sounds like people bigging up someone they’ve never heard of,has he ever played outside of South America ?Much like the noises last summer that we’d had a 10 out of 10 window…That didn’t quite pan out did it !! Let’s firstly get players bought then playing before we start quoting about how much better than what we have , they are.

Not a player I’m familiar with by any means, however, I’m hopeful that Potter has done his due diligence and that Lomonaco will be a significant upgrade on Mavropanos.

If this transfer does materialise I assume it points to the club’s confidence that a buyer can be found for Aguerd.

I wish you would stop putting transfers stories on this site, we won’t be signing anyone unless there free, we are skint any cash we get for players will pay our debts, and why would we give harry Potter any money if we had it, he ain’t up to the job, that’s obvious

  • Bill Ryan says:

If you activate a release clause you pay the whole lot not in instalments so that’s a non starter seeing as the powers that be insist we must sell before we can buy Sullivan and the board proper sold potter a pup because there’s no way he would have taken the job without guarantees , but we all know how Sullivans promises turn to pie crusts

Seems like bs from start to Friday nish.
      Sullivan makes promises to Potter.
Potter follows on dangling the carrot by promising Cummings and Guilherme inclusion in permanent first team football.
Seems like you just can’t trust whu hierarchy.
