New Striker on the Radar – Report

Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has just confirmed that The Hammers are now looking at Borussia Dortmund’s striker Niclas Fullkrug as a potential target.

The German Centre Forward is in the last two years of his contract having joined in August 2023.

According to Sheth’s comment on ‘X’, West Ham still retain an interest in Jhon Duran but the sticking point remains the gap in valuation between the two clubs. Fullkrug is seen as a viable option by the Hammers despite his age – he’s 31.

Fullkrug appeared in Euro 2024 in Germany’s five matches and scored twice. A big right footed centre forward at 1.89 meters he certainly fits the physical style and profile of a classic striker- at 31 years old however he doesn’t fit the ‘Red Bull’ model so often proclaimed as West Ham’s blue print for moving forward.

There had been interest  from the Hammers in the striker last Summer if memory serves me right.

Whether this is a ploy to force Villa’s hand regarding the outstanding transfer offer for Jhon Duran or a genuine intention to find an alternative to bolster West Ham’s forward line – we will see in the coming days.

We will keep our ear to the ground, for any signs of progressing to bid stage along with The Irons’ current ongoing interest in Alexander Sorloth.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

Niclas Füllkrug would suit West Ham down to the ground and I only left a comment on his insta the a couple of days ago saying he should come to West Ham.
Tim Steidten has known him for years when he was at Werder and re-signed him in 2023 before he went to BO4
Yeah, he’s 31, but he knows where the net is and is a top pro. Wouldn’t be causing us any trouble in a year like the mercenary from Villa would, plus he needs to keep his place in the German National Team.
Only problem would be the fee if it was too high given his age and resale value. He has had injuries in the past..

Wake me up when the transfer window is closed.

Nothing is actually happening with any so called targets , so why would this be any different.

  • Kevlar says:

Fulkrug is a decent striker but too old to be the solution to our striker problems! We need to sign Duran and wahi from lens on our left wing,he can play as striker as well so can fill in when Duran is injured or needs a break. Why are we messing around over £5m extra to get Duran signed? We are acting like a club in financial distress,it doesn’t make any decent player want to join us that’s for sure? COYI

    • Steve says:

Well seen as we need 3 players minimum, I think that £5m difference could make a big difference if we’re running out of cash

      • Ben says:

You’re right I think we’ve already offered 10 m to much so effectively 15 m over the odds

  • Benny the Aussie says:

So old hungry players then? This window and club keeps on giving.
Sullivan has truly drank the koolaid. How do we get this so wrong every year and every window?

  • Steve says:

Ok, not the age profile we’re targeting, but looked good every time I saw him play last season and in the euros

    • NorfolkHammer says:

I thought we were trying to attract young hungry players as we already have an ageing squad but hey ho hope you like spending your money on OAPS

      • Steve says:

Well, given we’re not getting Duran by by the looks of it, he’s an upgrade on Mikey and be good for 2 years while we try and get a younger one in
Just don’t think it’d be the worst signing

      • John simmonds says:

He’s 31. Not an oap!!. Going back a bit David Cross wasn’t exactly young when we bought him
And he banged them in for fun for a few years. Similar type of player. Big tall and bustling and never took no ****. I remember he scored 4 against spurs one night at ****e Hart Lane in a 0-4 win. He must’ve been in his 30s then. Can’t see a problem if the price is right. Established international. What’s the problem

  • NorfolkHammer says:

so a mercenary the fun of being a HAMMER 🔨
