Newcastle United 0-2 West Ham United
Fabianski:7 Got himself out of trouble with a crazy piece of footwork. Not too much to do despite Newcastle’s numerous efforts which tended to ne high, wide and handsome. Made a couple of decent punches clear.
Wan Bissaka:9 Blocked Willock from shooting into an empty goal. Scored the second goal of the game and his first for West Ham with a neat finish to the far post. Highly impressive performance in all departments.
Todibo:7 Silly error almost led to Gordon scoring from close range. Removed from action on 55 mins.
Kilman:8 Impressively dribbled his way out of trouble at one point. At times his reading of the game was exquisite.
Emerson:7 Excellent corner which created the first goal of the game for Soucek.
Soucek:8 Scored West Ham’s opener on ten minutes with a powerful header, our first goal from a comer this season. His hesitancy almost led to an Isak goal, fully committed as always.
Soler:7 Linked well with Paqueta as West Han looked far more energetic and technical in midfield. Some excellent first time passes.
Paqueta:8 Impressive early commitment to pressing which has not been evident too often this season. Played a crucial role in the Irons second by winning the ball in midfield. Played more of a number 8 role and looked very comfortable.
Bowen:8 His early mazy run helped build the early Hammers momentum which led to the opener. Set up Wan Bissaka with a neat square pass inside the area. Bowen was sharp and in good form throughout. I’m not sure how many times Bowen nutmegged the Toon players but it was significant.
Summerville:6 Looked lively during a couple of first half runs.
Antonio:7 Up for the scrap and heavily involved.
Substitutes
Mavropanos:7 On for Todibo and immediately involved with a robust interception. Could have conceded a penalty as he piggy-backed Calum Wilson. Took the ball off Isak’s toe in a timely intervention.
Coufal:7 74th min sub for Emerson and fully committed as always.
Ings:6 Ings replaced Antonio as part of a double sub.
Rodriguez: 83rd min sub for Soler
Irving: 83rd min replacement for Summerville. Kept the ball ticking over.

Well, we need crucial points to help against relegation, im not buzzing though, what do you want from me?
we could well be back to the “see where we are around xmas” scenario. no one expects us to beat the Arse, even at home. after that our run is as good as it gets really and those matches are crucial. anything more than 10 pts from them and we’re probably not sacking him
and that was, by far, our best performance this season
At last, a real team effort from a West Ham squad that seemed at odds with … everything I’ve seen this season.!
IMHO these ratings are a little stingey.
Felt Soler, Paqueta and Soucek showed their stuff, Bowen, Kilman & Antonio excellent , but the real plaudits go to Fabianski and Wan-Bissaka – MotM performance!
Is this what Loopy has been trying to install?
cant belive this site had we lost there would have ben a dozen posts at least but we won and nothing
you don’t come here often, do you, son? read the first paragraph. there are always a LOT of articles on this site – too many some say – and there will be plenty after the player ratings and the dust has settled. that is the way it works. in the meantime 😎🐕
More or less agree with these assessments of the team. But, does this mean that the pressure is now off Lopetegui for a while, or does he have to get something from Arsenal before he can breath a little easier ? And then, what ? Will it be just a stay of execution ? One thing is for sure; if you want the “West Ham way”, this is it. 3 points from a game that we were odds on to lose ! But, the “West Ham way” probably involves more disappointing performances around the corner. But tonight ? Great performance, well done !
Great win in what was probably the most important game of the season so far. For everybody connected to West Ham.
That will buy Lopetegui some time. I’m surprised by that performance. I wanted Lopetegui gone but not at the expense of results just to prove a point. If he can keep that level over the next 6 games, we will pick up points. The jury is still out, but the Hammer hasn’t come down yet
Excellent, absolutely loved that. Like everyone else I thought Lopetegui was a dead man walking.
Please don’t revert to type against Arsenal. Would love to get a result against them.
Well who foresaw that ? A different team to against Everton, Forest, Tottenham. That’s the improvement that I’ve been looking for but not seen a glimmer of until today.
Clean sheet, away win, decent performance that’s a change out of any recognition. We need to see another decent performance against Arsenal now.
I never thought that was coming as there was no sign of it, it’s like the performance I said that I wanted to see in a post earlier today rather than the performance I expected to see.
