Newcastle in for Hammers target

Newcastle are eyeing a move for Gabriel Barbosa, who has also been touted as a potential Hammers target in the January transfer window.

The Flamengo striker is said to be attracting interest from David Moyes’ side, with the club desperate to sign a striker at the turn of the year to provide support and back-up to Mikey Antonio.

However, ESPN has now claimed that Newcastle are also interested in a deal to secure the Brazil international’s signature in the winter window.

Barbosa is known as Gabigol in his homeland and he has been in incredible form for Flamengo since joining the club in 2020, scoring 84 goals in 124 games for them.

Newcastle are said to be interested in taking him on loan with an option to buy him at the end of the season, although it remains to be seen if Flamengo would allow that deal to go through.

They also need a striker after seeing Callum Wilson go down with a serious injury.
