Newcastle join chase for Irons top target

jermain-defoe-STR_1510278cNewcastle are tonight reported to be poised to join the summer chase for Jermain Defoe.

With the Geordies heading for promotion, new reports have emerged that he is fancied by Sunderland’s deadliest enemies.

But assuming the Irons pull clear of the relegation battle the club remains favourite to sign a player who according to close sources is keen to end his career in east London.

Indeed we have been told there is an informal agreement in place that the striker will join us  assuming Sunderland are relegated and we remain in the Premier League.

However, both Newcastle and Bournemouth are keen to get involved in signing the 34 year old whose wages are believed to be around £80k a week.

However, he will be on a free transfer and that makes a two year deal affordable at around £7 – £8 million.
