Newcastle want Hammer – report

Newcastle want to do a deal to sign Issa Diop from West Ham and have been in talks over a move, according to a new report.

L’Equipe, via Get French Football News, reports that the two clubs have opened negotiations over a potential deal in this transfer window.

There has yet to be a bid tabled by the Magpies, who are, of course, newly-minted, but it remains to be seen if they will be able to convince Diop to make the move.

The centre-back is said to be unsure over a potential move because Newcastle could well still go down, as they are continuing to battle at the bottom of the table.

We have reported previously that Diop could well come under threat if the Irons are able to sign a centre-back before next week’s transfer window but it’s difficult to imagine him leaving if no new defender comes into the club.

Keep an eye on this one. Moderate Rater

  1. We are looking for a centre back because we are short of centre backs so what sense would it make to sell one.

  2. Difficult to imagine … REALLY ???? Short memory …….. we ditched the current most successful striker in Champions League ( constantly played out of position by Moyes ) for a give away fee and are still without any sort of replacement 12 months 3 transfer windows later . The smell of the money will excite Sullivan beyond description . COYI

  3. Definition of West Ham at this time if no signings are made-Busy going nowhere.

  4. Our recent form has been somewhat checkered and letting Diop go w/o a replacement would be crazy even if Newcastle offer silly money. We’d have to play Baptiste for the rest of the season because come March if we’re still in the FA Cup it’s gonna be 2 matches per week again – not a bad thing if he plays to his potential and no more injuries to any CB. If the only player we get is valued at 50mill that doesn’t sound like a CB to me.
