Newman’s Euro expertise areas ahead of summer window

By Dave Langton

Pay very close attention to rumours emanating out of Spain and Portugal concerning West Ham ahead of the summer transfer window!

Rob Newman, the club’s new Head of Recruitment, used to be pictured at games in La Liga and Liga NOS when he was on the payroll at Manchester City as a scout.

And a top City insider has told ClaretandHugh that Newman specialises in running the rule over players from the two European nations.

It means that he has had a role in City signing the likes of Rodri, Aymeric Laporte, David Silva and Yaya Toure during his time with the club.

The Hammers, of course, are aware that they are likely to need a rebuild this summer given the average age of the squad and the contract situations of one or two players at the club.

Newman will be casting his net far and wide, of course, but we have been told to expect movement from both Spain and Portugal as Newman dusts off his contacts book to strengthen the squad.

  1. Still beggars belief that he hadn’t been doing that in the months before January. Surely he would have a list no matter who he was employed by.
