Nine massive Irons game – one big selection dilemma

|

Jeremy Ngakia’s refusal to sign a new deal with the Irons this summer – or even come to a short term agreement beyond June – presents David Moyes with his one big selection dilemma for the Wolves and Chelsea games.

Does he go with the 19 year old for the two games ahead of the June deadline or make a choice between Ryan Fredericks or Ben Johnson?

He may believe – given the teenager’s form ahead of the Covid19 break – that he should trust him for another 180 minutes but only he will have an idea of where the lad’s head may be given his decision to quit the club.

Blaming the player or agent for his decision is not a factor here.

All that matters is whether in these circumstances Moyes believes he can trust the boy to give his absolute best in the circumstances as they exist.

It seems unlikely on the face of it that he will at a time when the defender  has made it clear his heart is no longer in the club.

And his decision to walk away without  offering to make himself available to help in the relegation struggle seems to have ensured that his day is now done.

Fredericks has been a bit hit and miss when free of what has become too regular injuries whilst Johnson may be considered unready for such a battle given his shortage of a first team football.

In tricky circumstances I would expect the free transfer from Fulham to get the call as we head into the nine most important games we have faced in many years given the financial scenario across the game and the consequences of relegation.

Why would we want to put our faith in a player, who has no intention of being at the club next season regardless of what division we are playing in. I had high hopes for him & it’s a shame he’s made this decision, but should be put back into the U23 set up & go with Fredericks to start, with Johnson or Zabaleta as back up. Will be interested to see where he ends up & if he’s getting paid anywhere close to what he is asking from us.

I believe at this stage he should go with the experience of Fredericks. He has the speed and knowledge to play full back. Ngokia should not even be in the reckoning or anywhere near the team. Johnson? his time will come.

    Definately not !
