Contrary to recent speculation, a deal for Southampton’s soon-to-be out-of-contract defender Kyle Walker-Peters to join West Ham is not done.
Rumours have been swirling for the past 48 hours suggesting the former Spurs full-back was on the verge of a free transfer to the London Stadium.
West Ham were indeed interested in the 27-year-old last summer, but Southampton’s valuation—particularly when he was discussed in a potential swap deal involving Flynn Downes—proved too steep. The Irons ultimately opted for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and the rest, as they say, is history.
It was previously claimed that West Ham had agreed a deal in principle with Walker-Peters’ representatives, but Claret & Hugh have been told otherwise.
When we put it to a trusted insider that the player had agreed to join, the response was blunt: “No, no deal yet. He’s a decent enough player, but there are not as many clubs interested as you’d think.”
The full-back remains a player of interest—but as things stand, no agreement has been reached.
Try to get this one done
Of course we’re in a position to pick and chose. We are we do sh t in the transfer market? Is it Sullivan, is it the lack of money? Both? We can’t lambast Potter if he hasn’t got the players. I, and I am sure the rest of supporters are, pulling my hair out by how bad we are at closing transfers out….. even for freebies!!!
Just waiting for confirmation that Sullivan has signed his 3 main targets…..
Brownhill, Ramsdale and Calvert-Lewin.
Kyle has an impossible job under Sullivan and will his targets will be ignored just like Steidten.
If we mess up in this transfer market window we are down. And Sullivan will have to go. End of.
I think it’s a case of “when we mess up” as opposed to “if”
We seemed destined to get relegated as not convinced there will be three teams worse than us again.
“And Sullivan will have to go.”
Exactly ‘how’ would Sullivan go?
He’s the Chairman and main share-holder.
