No Chance | West Ham Priced Out of Move For Top Striker Target

West Ham’s chances of signing Jonathan David have been described as “zero.”

The Hammers have been heavily linked with a move for the Lille frontman, who is available on a free transfer in the summer. However, when we put the idea to a former West Ham scout, who is heavily involved in recruitment in France, we were told that it was completely unrealistic.

Claret & Hugh were informed that the club may have had a chance to sign David last season for £25m, but now have “zero chance.”

“Some of the biggest clubs in Europe are sniffing around him,” C&H were told when we asked about the frontman who scored for Lille against Liverpool last night.

“He has had multiple offers and can choose from some of the biggest clubs. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, PSG, both Milan clubs, Juventus, and Dortmund have all been in touch, so West Ham have no chance. The player will likely move to Barcelona.”

It has also been revealed that David and his representatives would demand fees approaching €20m, and there is no shortage of clubs willing to pay it. With that in mind, it is highly unlikely the Hammers would sanction such a large signing-on and agent’s fee, even if the player were a realistic target.

Our decision making is deranged means that we both underachieve and waste the money that we have.

That means we cannot afford fees that we might other wise be able to and decent players prefer to go other places.

That’s going to be the case all the while that the decisions come from the same place.

Just how much underachievement and money wasted has there been due to plain deranged decision making this season. It’s actually surprising that we get by as well as we do.

Did you read that post before you clicked ‘Post Comment’?

Up until 2024, West Ham have had the best run of it in years, decades. (Remember Prague?)

They have bought in some rock solid players for reasonable money, some over-priced dross, some mistakes, just like every other Premiership club.
As a fact, they have spent less over a longer period that almost any other Premiership clubs, so we are where we are, that is not competing with the likes of PSG, Chelsea, Man Utd. etc. etc.

Hopefully Graham Potter has the insight to make all purchases for the long term as he’s the ability to improve there individual skill, mental ability and most importantly the application of that talent on match day’s. For two seasons we’ve had numerous talented player’s under performing so we need to buy player’s with a younger profile and develop them. I watched Athletico and Leverkusen last night how difficult can it be to acquire eleven player’s to that standard and compete at CL level? We need to be shrewder and more astute but can’t see that changing any time soon but I’m hopeful Potter and co can alter that given time.

I watched that game too and thought exactly the same thing. Both teams were up for attacking football. I thoroughly enjoyed the game. Anyway, let’s hope Potter can get a team similar to those, but I think it will take a season or two.

Everyone seems to have missed a particular bit of this, statement, manutd a big club they are playing even poorer than we are, and now that villa have signed malen they must have given him assurances about his playing time so neither Watkins or Duran will be amused i see both pushing for moves away from villa, and they won’t be the only ones looking to leave villa, theirs definitely unrest in their camp right now, they were awful last night.

Man Utd / Spurs / West Ham / Ston are all in n the same boat in needing players.
Injuries are playing a big part in their needs.
January transfer period has been noted not to be great for buying.
David seems to be high on the wanted list and this means the world is his oyster.
His demands will be an open book and that’s not juIst relating to signing on fee.
Duran is also on the tips of tongues with £ signs in Villa’s eyes.
So much has been speculated about these two players it’s become boring.
Neither are coming to whu so let’s be realistic and concentrate on ‘probable’ players and get them signed.
Need to ditch the maybe’s and move.
It’s heading for normal whu style in 11th hour bidding running round like headless chickens.
Remove all references from c&h relating to these 2 players as it’s wasted space.

So the old boot diver spent £50m on fulkrug and Guilherme but couldn’t identify Jonathan David for £25m?

    • M B says:

It was widely reported in the summer that Steiden wanted to buy him, but as usual someone else at the last minute meddled as they thought he wasn’t’ Premier League quality. Can’t think who they could be 😉

      • John Ayris says:

Same story as ever. Steidten wants players like David, Duran, Gyokeres, others don’t fancy them or won’t pay a bit more when required, say go and get Fullkrug as a cheaper option…

  • Kip says:

Another storie of who we won’t sign..understand hard with the big clubs ..but if threes no fee then 20. Million seems reasonable..or am.i missing something..what are they expecting…and how do they know if we haven’t tried with a bid

  • Mavded says:

I thought billionaire businessmen were meant to have forethought into markets and can pick up on the next big thing but the amount of times our owner says no to players and then low and behold everyone is in for them for £££££££££’s you just have to wonder.

Stick to porn or homes under the hammer because sports wise he does not have a clue and be prepared for the usual we tried to get a deal done but we just could not get it over the line blah blah blah
