Juventus are currently facing an uphill battle to reach an agreement with OGC Nice over the transfer structure for Jean-Clair Todibo, which has opened the door for West Ham to reignite our interest in the player.

The Hammers had reached an agreement with the French club for the central defender who’s head was turned by interest from Italian giants Juve.

Juventus are keen to sign the French defender and have already agreed on personal terms with his agents. Todibo is also determined to join the Serie A giants, putting all other interested clubs, including The Hammers, on hold. However, Juventus must overcome a significant hurdle: reaching an agreement with Nice on the transfer structure.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Nice is rejecting any proposals involving an initial loan, even if they include an obligation to buy. The French club insists on a permanent transfer, setting the asking price at 35 million euros. In effect, the Ligue 1 side are completely fed up with Juve’s attempts to undermine their prize asset and they appear to have reached breaking point.

Todibo began his career at Toulouse before being signed by Barcelona at a young age. However, his time in Catalonia was disappointing, leading to his return to France with Nice in 2021. Since then, the Frenchman has re-established himself as one of the top centre-backs in Ligue 1 and is now ready to challenge himself again at the highest level.

It is still early days in August and so far we have gotten 6 transfers over the line, which seemed unlikely in those days Steidten was in Brazil trying to finish a deal for Guilherme. Hence good work by Steidten et al. Adding one or two more signings would be even better.

I though Tobido wants to go to Man U, and they want him but unable to do so because of the Club connection. So a move to an independent Club has to happen before a prompt move to Man U.

Wasn’t our bid also a loan deal with obligation to buy?

    • Kelvin Wheeler says:

Initially No, I believe it was an outright purchase. But you are right in as much it then became loan with OBLIGATION, Juve have always been a loan with OPTION. Juve are struggling financially and Nice do not have faith in their ability to complete.

  • Jeeps says:

Can Tim hang on until the eleventh hour before signing a new centre back?
This is what he might have to do and even then might not get him.
    Mindgames!!

  • elduder says:

tim should tell nice that we’ll knock 1m euro off for every day this deal is delayed

  • Kevlar says:

Let’s be patient todibo is worth waiting for a full French international and young.Otherwise we should go for Joe Gomez from Liverpool although he will be more expensive!

    • Benny the Aussie says:

Totally agree, I think we will end up getting our man.
I think Gomez is Injury prone, but would be pricey

  • Pongo says:

Tim needs to tell nice and todiibo it’s now or never . Juventus can’t afford to sign him right now. So we are his best option full stop. If todiibo has any sense he will sign for us ASAP.

mats hummels is probably coming our way

    another shrewd signing

would be perfect, mavros is the future, just has his confidence shot atm, needs the pressure off, would do well with time and space to ease back into it

    • Jeeps says:

If Mavro or Aguerd go bring in Hummel and Gormez.
Gomez brings versatility covering a number of positions.
Something that’s always been high on whu requirements.
Need 3 centre backs to cover injury/suspension and create competition

    • Steptoe says:

Don’t agree, with the above. It was recently reported we were after young players, so therefore reducing the squad average age! Hummels is 35, for gods sack? How is that reducing the squad average age??? May be a decent player, but even he has recently admitted he is considering retiring? Makes no sense.

  • Ian says:

So Nice accepted our bid which was a loan with agreement to buy, but refuse any loan deal with Juventus?
I can see player power winning this and Todibo still playing in Serie A next season. Would hope to be proven wrong, and see him sign for us, but he seems pretty determined about where he want to go.

This is an article of interest,

  • Arun Torgal says:

I think he really wants Juventus so I hope Tim has someone else lined up. We cannot sign players who do not want to play for us.
