“No long term future” means West Ham star can rewrite his own story

Looking at the performance of West Ham United’s back line yesterday it was difficult to believe the four had not started a game together. Indeed the relationship created in ninety minutes at Turf Moor between the new centre back pairing of Disasi and Mavropanos must be a worry for the suspended Todibo who might just struggle to get his starting place back.

Disasi’s selection raised a few eyebrows: His performance even more so as he stood strong and assured in a most un-West Ham like manner. Perhaps West Ham will come to rue the ‘dry loan’ agreement without option to buy the Frenchman but it is clear he has no future back at Stamford Bridge.

As Chelsea fan site thechelseachronicle.com puts it:

“Axel Disasi has almost no long-term future at Chelsea, despite having over three years remaining on his contract. While manager Liam Rosenior offered him a brief clean slate in training, the club’s actions on Deadline Day made their stance clear: he is considered surplus to requirements.”

“Even if Disasi performs exceptionally at West Ham, the plan for the summer of 2026 is to facilitate a permanent exit and chase a new defender.”

Putting himself in the shop window over the next three months, then, must be Disasi’s prime motivator. Should the Hammers get relegated then the French centre back can still emerge unscathed. Help West Ham conjure up the great escape 2.0 then likely the Irons will go knocking on the door at Stamford Bridge to try and make his loan permanent.

Disasi has the chance to rewrite his own story and go from outcast to hot property between now and May: Whether he’d choose to stay at London Stadium come the summer is another issue altogether if his loan enables him to play himself back into form and onto the shopping lists of some of Europe’s finest. At the very least he can become a bit of a Hammers hero if he helps the Irons retain their Premier League status.
