No Messi…no Ronaldo…and other owners with more money but still plenty of positives as Hammers get ready

ClaretandHugh’s Foxy Lady CAROL COMBES takes a few minutes off from admining the CandH Facebook Group @https://www.facebook.com/groups/363174467150521/ to give her sideways look at the Irons season complete with some sad reminders of what was, but will never be again!
I am the bearer of bad news for West Ham fans.
Brace yourselves, but as I awoke this morning to a rare day off, and realised the transfer window will soon close, (Whoopee!), there were a few realities that dawned on me:
  1. Neither Ronaldo nor Messi have signed for West Ham.
  2. Zabaleta has not lost 10 years off his age.
  3. Our great Bobby Moore is not back playing with us.
  4. Whatever our owners are worth, there will always be others owners with more money.
  5. We are never going to win every game and play with perfection of which we dream.
  6. Our beloved Boleyn hasn’t regenerated overnight back to a footy ground, complete with 60,000+ capacity, but still feel the same!
Now that said, and before we start crying about what isn’t, are there any positives about West Ham before this season starts?
I think so. After those turbulent years, it seems as though the club is becoming more stable each season-meaning we can concentrate on the footy rather than what disaster is looming behind the scenes!
Many more now seem to have accepted the move to the stadium-reflected by the huge percentage of renewals. Those that are unable/unwilling to adjust will, of course, not continue to pay for a ST , (and moan all season about it!), but give them up, so that some (very), lucky people on the long waiting list can go and support the players.
I think many of us are never ‘happy’ about the squad-always ‘light’ in some areas-but settle for ‘ok’ or ‘we’ll see’! That said, we wouldn’t be West Ham without more than our fair share of dreadful injuries/bad luck.
We already expect to lose some games we expected to win, and will ship far more goals than my blood pressure can take-that’s being a West Ham fan! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣
At the other end, I can’t remember when we last had so many exciting players, with great skills and talent, that I cannot wait to see gel as a team and turn on some magic!
Add to that the great man, Pelligrini, (and his team), who loves ‘real’ footy, is incredibly intelligent and experienced, then I think it’s looking like an interesting season ahead.
Although many scoff, I must also mention the amazing West Ham Ladies, who have caused a lot of upset to other teams-may that continue! It’s all under the West Ham family! 😉👍⚒
If, (!), we lose to City we know the ‘doomers’ will start, nothing will stop them, but I think we have a lot to look forward to.
Relax, it’s footy! If you can’t find anything about it you enjoy-don’t add stress to your life-go watch a Chess match!
For me, bring it on!
COME ON YOU IRONS! 👍⚒

The problem with opinions written down in text form is there’s no sense of tone. I will forever bang on about a left back because I think we’re in desperate need and I think it will transform our season, perhaps even take us to the ‘next level’. There are a few other positions I think we’re short in and if I post a detailed opinion about my areas of concern, there will be accusations of negativity. In reality, I think we’ll do fairly well this season, I’m not worried, I just want us to be the best of the rest at a time where probably 4 clubs are making a real play for that position. I don’t want to get left behind and regret not getting that extra piece of the jigsaw that could have seen us kick on and leave others behind.

Conversely, articles like this one will no doubt be interpreted as blindless positivity that serve only to put down those who have a glass half empty attitude. The reality is in all likelihood, nobody is 100% positive and nobody is 100% negative and we should perhaps not look at positive articles as spin to hide the weaknesses at our club or perceived negative comments as panicking knee jerkers with nothing good to say.

Again, I’ll repeat, I am delighted with the two signings we’ve brought in, however I think we can be a real threat to the top 6 if we sort out a couple of areas. The opportunity is there for somebody outside the top 6 to make a real play this season. I hope we have the same ambition as Everton and Leicester. I don’t believe sorting out our problem areas would cost a fortune.

Dom, completely agree with you. To add I am not worried about this season but I just think we are so close to challenging for that top 6 with a couple of quality signings in key positions. Cahill and Welbeck have had great careers but they were not good enough for Chelsea or arsenal so dont let us spend a fortune on players who are no longer seen as quality signings. The next 7 days will tell us about the ambition of our club this season. I believe without these signings we will do very well to finish top 10 again. This is not being negative but being realistic but why not kick on for top 8 or top 6 with a couple of key signings and I agree they would not cost a fortune.

Gamble on potential, loan to buys, free signings. An example and it is just an example would be the free signing of Llorente. He was quality last season and stood in for Kane very well. As an example Llorente would be a a great signing up top, no transfer fee involved, signing on fee and wages could be high but both could be paid over the year of the contract so no major outlay up front. He would be a terrific signing in my opinion as he would give big competition for Haller with Chica going out covering the cost of the contract. Moves like this that do not cost a fortune could turn us into top 6. We have let 10 players go this summer with only 3 incoming’s so in terms of wages I believe we could have saved 20m in salary savings for this coming year alone.

And who are the CDM with legs, the class LB and the left footed right winger with great pace and crossing ability that you want us to sign?
