The reporting around the Orford/Duran saga has taken much attention away from West Ham’s agreement to sign Bayern Munichās Noussair Mazraoui. However, the distraction created by the transfer news surrounding the Aston Villa striker shouldnāt detract from a job well done on Mazraoui.
The Moroccan international joined the German giants on a free transfer from Ajax in July 2022 and has made 55 appearances for them but seemed destined to move to Old Trafford. Manchester United had been linked with Mazraoui, who played under Erik ten Hag in Amsterdam, making 137 appearances under the Dutch manager, and they were keen to sign the player.
West Ham had to move quickly and decided to pursue Mazraoui once it became clear that Aaron Wan-Bissaka would not move to the London Stadium.
What Iām most pleased about, though, is the club drawing a line under negotiations for Kyle Walker-Peters and moving on to the next option on the list. Southampton had become increasingly difficult to do business with, and the package for Mazraoui is considerably less.
Mazraoui offers incredible versatility too; he can operate effectively on both flanks and has even been deployed at centre-back and further up the pitch. He has had his problems with injury in the past, but that has likely been reflected in the price.
Played plenty of games last season, dont think ill worry to much about his apparent ‘injury’ record.
Fingers crossed that IF we sign him his availability improves. He only played just over half of Bayernās Bundesliga games last season, and exactly the same the previous one. So injured or left out?
Kimmich was getting picked over him, rightly so
Like many here when you hear that he has had an Injury record in the past thoughts of Ljunberg/Dyer/Carroll/Wheelchair etc come to mind and one sniff of the Romford Radiation could be the end of this players career……i think Coufal may be happy with this signing!
Watched a highlights reel on you tube. As you do. They highlighted his main weakness is heās injury prone. Maybe not such a problem if heās sharing duties with Coufal? Man U once again playing games. Either that or Man U players think theyāre too good for little old West Ham? Wan bissaker, Maguire, mctominay. Glad we got one over them by signing a player they wanted themselves. Serve them right for messing us about.
Awful injury record to be fair. Letās see if he actually signs.
I don’t like the “he’s had problems with injuries” bit in article at all, we have bought way to many crocks in my lifetime already
Hope this one comes off, think it will be a good signing but the thing that gives me a warm feeling is the message it sends. Stay with me here, I think in the past we have had our pants pulled down when it comes to transfers as we have backed ourselves into a corner and relied on the ole ā window is closing soon ā to force a deal. I think what is being demonstrated here is that if the selling club are not coming to the the party we are not going to play chicken when the window is about to close but walk away and sign the next one on the listā¦it may take a couple of transfers or transfer windows for this new way of westham doing business to take hold and I hope it does selling clubs will be much less likely to mess us around.
But we gave them flyn with no problem.. shocked nothing has been said about this …they absolutely. Mugged us of …our board are so dumb its hard to believe
Never understood the Downes love in . Very limited at best a Championship level player and obviously not rated by Lopetegui. Got the right price for him
Wan Bissaka is on wages and preferred to go to Milan anyhow.
Southampton are having an aberration with their valuation of Walker Peters who only has a year remaining. Worth extremely little next window and nowt the window after.
Mazraoui was the correct option and must have been rated by Man U for them to be interested in him.
Has the makings of a good signing given the options.
