No room for point proving in Snoddy’s world

|

Not many would argue that Robert Snodgrass has been the success story of the first half of the season having defied all odds to become a permanent fixture in the team.

His achievement has been extraordinary and worthy of admiration from every fan even those among us who gave him no chance of become a permanent Hammer at the beginning of the season.

But the guy has shown himself to be made of true grit and in the absence of such as Wilshere and Yarmolenko has done a brilliant job in the attacking midfield role.

Tonight his wholehearted approach will be needed again as we head into a game which will need to show us at our best if we are to get a result against a team that currently has some sort of Indian sign over us.

But the 31 year old Scot will again take it all in his stride and clearly feels he has nothing left to prove to anyone.

And discussing his season in the Official Programme for Wednesday’s Premier League fixture with Brighton & e Albion he said:Everybody started with a clean slate and it was a case that the manager said he was going to give everybody a fair chance.

“If you looked at our squad, everybody has been used this season on numerous occasions so it’s one of those ones where I believed in myself.

“Football is up and down, but you’ve just got to be doing the best you can to take the chances when they come.

“For me, the biggest thing is trying to get in the team and then try to kick on and contribute and show why the club bought me in the first place, which was to assist in goals.

“I am doing that and working hard to continue to do that. That’s the biggest thing for me. It’s nothing about that first season or anything; it’s this season and I feel as if I have proven that with goals and assists. That’s what you want to be doing, you want to be trying to help your forwards and I’m doing that right now. Long may it continue.”

He has made the Yarmolenko injury less painful than expected that’s for sure. Be interesting to see if he keeps his place in the team when Yarmolenko makes his comeback.
