How refreshing it is to have co-chairmen who tell it how is is and are never afraid to go public despite the barrage of criticism that comes their way from some fans ever ready to make a point or ten.
Over and over you hear the cry: “Stop doing things so publicly. Just get on with things privately and leave it at that.” Sorry but I for one disagree very strongly.
Football is far too secretive from Fifa downwards. I sometimes wonder if there’s a character somewhere named ‘M’ who has got everybody involved on the official secrets list.
One of my own staff members is a former Premier League media chief and he tells of the days when he and other in the same position was called – and still are – to quarterly meetings at the PL’s head office where they were warned about exposing things – notably players and managers to the media without them being totally under control.
He explained: “We were told to keep all the media at arm’s length. There ‘s a perception they are there simply to stitch everybody up.
“It’s ludicrous but there aren’t many strong PR men at the various clubs and they listen and do as they are told.”
In the end he left for as a proper journalist himself he felt he was becoming a Premier League whore and decided to go back to what he does best – tell the truth about what’s going on
David Sullivan and David Gold thank God, are their own men and to hear DS explaining the Alex Song deal on the KUMB podcast followed today by the revelation there’s no way they will be signing Charlie Austin, is refreshing in the extreme.
Excuse us a little pat on the back but this website has revealed the same on both these stories weeks ago but well done to the podcast boys for getting it on the record!
DS has always been incredibly helpful whenever we have had occasion to contact him and we – no doubt like KUMB – are very grateful that he is so in touch with the fans via THEIR websites.
The same is entirely true of David Gold whose appearances on Twitter and CandH are always hugely appreciated – despite some abuse from the numbskulls.
I can think of no other club owners who make themselves so accessible and we all should be very grateful indeed!
There’s no secretive nonsense from these two guys.
PR!
I’m with Hugh on this one…. they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Just compare G&S with Terry Brown, Martin Cearns and the Icelandic Biscuit Bloke. Chalk and cheese!
As for my favourite MILF Karren Brady, she’s paid for out of Sullivan’s own pocket and to be honest, the deal she pulled off for the stadium would make her worth any salary.
Finally, too may fans read a story in the press and take it as gospel, when nine times out of ten it’s just lazy, idle, made-up paper talk. We then comment, asking the owners to respond to stories that have nothing to do with them. When one of them directly quoted – such as Sullivan on Song and Austin, I’m interested. All the other chit-chat and white noise about dubious strikers we’ve never heard of is 99% fictional rubbish.
Now go and get Negredo!
Might be in a lower league but at least he is always on the pitch to score them.Ours cant score from the medical room can he 😉
100 – 1 on I would say he already has two in 3 games.
……in a lower league
I thought it was refreshing when Mr Gold first took to twitter, but now how he gets drawn in debates worries me, it’s not dignified! I feel it reflects his age.
Then Mr Gold on KUMB, the media like Charlie Austin himself are seeing it in a different way, again it’s not dignified, reports question his knee? and goals?
Little Pot! Kettle! What we paid for Carroll when we know his injury record, but then also agreed to pay him the stupid salary we did!
Hope this does not come back to bite us if we struggle for goals again, and Austin has a good season. I have asked the bookies for odds Austin will score more goals than Carroll this season.
Once Bitten……
He didn’t actually say there was no way he’d be signing Charlie Austin, he said that he wouldn’t be signing him at £15m because of FFP and that there budgets wouldn’t stretch to it but I get your point 🙂 there are times when I wish DS would keep quiet but that his character and they have been good for the club so far. My worry is that if the transition takes time under Bilic which it could, he will get over involved publically on the football side as he did with Zola constantly appearing at the training ground and that imo was not good to see.
I have to say, although sceptical at the start, I am coming round to these guys also … 🙂
I would add, that Brady worries me, also …
Oh here we go again,Rugby has to start on about Brady!! Yesterday Nolan, today Brady.Yawn,Zzzzzzzzz!!!
Don’t answer the question do you ,just whinge as usual.
That really is pot & kettle coming from you Steve. The king of moaning about Nolan,Brady & any amount of money people earn. There agian you used to work in the Premier League didnt you. What were you some clubs clown!
A pat on the back too for Canchaz who is able to read their minds?
The owners are fine but their secretive relationship with Brady, what she actually part time does, her salary and bonuses, still worries me. The recent changes to the board seem to prove her influence is negligible but still she takes a lot of money and undeserved plaudits.
Just saying.
Absolutely right. I don’t understand why people have an axe to grind over our owners who are one of the few who actually support the club as we fans do. If you hang around at the end of a game as I often have to thanks to my sons getting autographs they are always more than happy to stop and talk to anyone who wants to ask them a sensible question. How many owners of the other Prem clubs would do that ?
