C&H Exclusive on Shaquille O’Neal West Ham takeover¬†

If Shaquille O’Neal is close to buying a stake in West Ham United, last night’s story from the newspaper was the first the club had heard about it.

That was the response given by Claret and Hugh’s top source when Sean Whetstone made the inquiry earlier this morning. The American basketball star had reportedly fallen in love with West Ham while watching a game at the London Stadium last season.

But that is news to anyone at West Ham who were as baffled as the rest of us when news broke of Shaq’s interest in pie & mash and all things claret & blue.

However, it should be noted that some West Ham shares owned by the Gold family, and in particular Vanessa Gold, remain available. The club is actively encouraging additional investments, although all attempts to secure further funding have thus far failed.

Baroness Karren Brady travelled to the Middle East earlier this year in a bid to gauge interest in West Ham’s available shares but returned empty-handed.

Anyone expecting any drastic change at West Ham will in for disappointment though. Daniel Kretinsky has no desire to take full control if the club and even if new investment is found, David Sullivan will remain in charge.
