No way back for this player any time soon

|

tomkins-255812It doesn’t seem from all the sounds coming out of the club that Carl Jenkinson is on his way back into the side any time soon.

James Tomkins’ arrival at right back has demonstrated that the manager is determined to get the basics right and from his public statements it looks as though James Tomkins expects to stay there.

That may not be a big surprise to most but in fairness it has come as a relief for at one time it looked likely that JT might be an available transfer target.

But both the manager and player seem to be suggesting that he’s got the job for the long haul with Tomkins saying: “I think he knows that going forward will be more difficult for me and at times he tells me to stop getting forward when I am trying to gallop towards the other goal.”

Jenkinson’s vulnerable position is made more tenuous because he is clearly a better offensive force than defensive which is what Bilic wants.

Tomkins told London24.com: “The gaffer has put his faith in me and defensively we look quite solid as a back four and we have got clean sheets from that. We just need to get goals at the other end too.”

All that’s needed now is for the big local lad stays fit!

The stats show Slav And Hugh to be right with Tomks at right back we don’t concede goals and don’t loose,
Jenkinson might look better going forward but Tonks offers more for corners and free kicks
Jenks was a expensive loan but good Right backs are thin on the ground and are not cheap,
The 2 Daves have paid a lot of money on more then just Jenks and know not all business ends up successful,
I would leave Tomks there for this season if he is fit then review at the end of the season,
Wenger is no mug and he knew Jenkinson was not up to the job hence we got ripped off

You may be right at the moment about Tompkins getting a bit lost going forward , but he can only get better with each game, plus he is a much better distributor of the ball than Jenks. There are numerous times that Jenks does get down to their line but his cross more often than not hits the first guy, so I do not think he has stupendous guile and just off loads.
I’d rather have the safety of the defender

Gotta agree with michael, tompkins is a fine defender but going forward he got caught stranded a couple of times against stoke and didn’t really have the legs to get back

Umm – I don’t see that, Jenkinson is a far better athlete he’s just having a confidence crisis and it’s Bilic’s job to get him playing like we know he can. The Club are also investing millions in having Jenkinson at West Ham and the Dave’s would expect something for their investment!

This is nothing against Tomkins, he is a fine Central Defender but looks like a fish out of water at full-back, he hasn’t got the natural athletic ability to do the toughest role in the team. I don’t like being a Jonah but you just expect his hamstrings to go twang at any time!

This is becoming a bit of a broken record!

“Confidence crisis” Come off it. Hes dreadful plain and simple. At least 8 goals we have conceded this season have been directly from the cause of Jenkinson. His positional sense is awful, he can’t tackle or mark properly. Who cares if hes more athletic then Tomkins, at the end of the day hes part of the DEFENCE, cresswell can get forward and defend so why cant Jenkinson. Tomkins may not be good going forward but saying hes a fish out of water at right back is a silly comment considering we haven’t conceded a goal this season with him at right back. Send Jenks back and save money, absolute waste of space. Before going on about last season, hes flaws were covered up by sams stick 10 men behind the ball tactics. But I bet if you looked it up you will find a lot of goals we conceded were down his side.
