Nobes reveals shock PL interest

|

Mark Noble has revealed that Liverpool were interested in signing him when he was playing.

The Hammers legend spent his entire career with the Irons, but he has now confirmed that he had the option to leave.

He insists that a “few extra grand a week” would not do anything to sway his belief that West Ham was the place to be.

But he has confirmed that he was given a nod that Liverpool were interested in doing a deal, but it never progressed to a formal bid being tabled.

Speaking on the Happy Hour podcast, Nobes said: “There were times when my agent rang me and said ‘Look there’s a lot of interest here’ and when my contract was running down…

“Everyone knew my situation and feelings for the club. Could I have at times gone elsewhere and earned more money, of course I could because you earn money from moves and all that.

“Yea (there was interest from Liverpool), actually our goalkeeper coach, who was at Liverpool at the time, Xavi, told me that and he said ‘we spoke about you a lot in meetings’. Obviously that never materialised but when I look back now and I see the send off I got and the loyalty I’d shown to the club and the history I’ve created… an extra few grand a week doesn’t compare to that.”

Noble, of course, retired at the end of last season and is set to move into a Sporting Director role ahead of the January transfer window.

The midfielder would have looked rather odd in any other kit, so we’re delighted to say that he remained with the Hammers throughout his storied career.
