Nobes staying positive

Mark Noble insists West Ham can take plenty of belief from their performance against Liverpool at the weekend.

The Hammers lost 1-0 to the Reds at Anfield but put in a hugely creditable performance, as they created a number of chances to score, and potentially win the game.

Both Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini missed gilt-edged chances in the game and the Irons just weren’t able to stick the ball in the back of the net.

Liverpool, by comparison, did find the net through Sadio Mane’s close-range strike, and that result has left the Irons with a mountain to climb as they look to finish in the top four.

However, Noble, who came on as a late substitute against Jurgen Klopp’s side, feels that the Hammers played so well against the Reds that they can take real confidence into the Europa League clash with Sevilla.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Irons skipper said: “I thought the boys were great on Saturday. We created a lot of chances for going to Anfield and the only problem is that you’ve got to finish them.

“They don’t give you many, so when you get them you have to try and put them away. Unfortunately we didn’t do that because it could have been a different story.

“For the boys, I reckon if you ask them, it was a really enjoyable game. We didn’t have a lot of the ball, but to be out there at Anfield and play like that is pretty enjoyable.

“That performance will give us a lot of belief and hopefully we can take that into the Europa League now.

“It’s exciting and hopefully we can perform like that because Sevilla are a top team and we are going to need to perform well.”

  1. A top man Nobes but he should not have been brought on in the game, we lost complete control of midfield when he arrived and Liverpool just ran through us. I heard Moyes saying he was brilliant when he came on – that is really really worrying if the manager is saying that. He played one great ball over the top to Moyes which we all know Nobes can do but he was lost out there and Moyes cannot see it.

  2. A big positive also was Antonio taking on a few shots at goal, which has been missing from his game for a little while.
