Mark Noble has spoken on the zero signings situation at West Ham as David Moyes became the only manager other than Mikel Arteta not to bring in a soul during the winter window,
And surprisingly it wasn’t the media department he spoke to but Rio Ferdinand on his Vibe with Five YouTube show during deadline day per Hammers News.
That won’t have gone down well with many as of course it was Ferdinand who not only backed the PAI Capital bid for the Hammers but has – in the past – encouraged Declan to join United.
It does seem extraordinary that the media department – – knowing the level of interest among fans – has thus far chosen to ignore the issue but maybe that has become par for the course.
Mind you Nobes said little more than one would have expected more or less backing the manager in his decision to leave things as they are among the squad
He said: “I’m pretty close with the manager so we talk about players coming in and out.
“Because I think we have done that in the past – not saying players are a waste of money – but it hasn’t quite worked or it hasn’t been the right character for the football club.
“With the players the manager has brought in, you see they’ve worked and they’ve gelled with the squad.
“So I think if it doesn’t work out, if we don’t get the players that we want then we’ll stick with what we’ve got and we’ll reinforce in the summer.”
Sensible stuff from Mr West Ham.
Too many of the players we were linked with in this window would’ve been signings ‘for the sake of it’.
I’ve read an article this morning about five out of contract players West Ham could still sign! Well, four of them are either past it or a not good enough standard for our squad. The other is Diego Costa (who I can’t stand). If Costa was on Moyes’s radar he would’ve been signed by now.
Keep Antonio fit and we’ll be OK.
Agree with these sentiments but I do get everyone’s frustration at the window, at the failure to sign anyone and the seeming ambivalence displayed by the board (and others) but this time it isn’t the board’s fault. Moyes has full control of the squad, he’s also adamant we couldn’t really improve in this window and aside from the move for Darwen Nunez (with a very serious 60 million) he was probably right “why fill the squad with dross?”
Look at it this way… You’ve got a garage almost full of Mercs and Beamers, (with a couple of Rollers about the place) youve got a couple of spare spaces but no one wants to sell you a Bugatti or a Bentley (for any money) in January so why fill the remaining spaces you do have with Golfs with dodgy history or Jags that have been to Mars and back???
Sorry for the automotive analogy but our finest our is (still) coming! COYI ⚒️⚒️
