Nobes tells Hammers what they need this summer

|

Mark Noble admits that West Ham need “two or three” players in the summer to be able to compete once again next season.

The Irons are heading into the final game of the season with European football confirmed, although it is not yet clear if the Hammers will be playing in the Europa League or the Europa Conference League.

To qualify for the Europa League, they will have to beat Brighton on the final day and hope that Manchester United lose to Crystal Palace.

Nobes, of course, was given a rousing send-off on Sunday as he played for the club for the final time at home against Manchester City, in a 2-2 draw.

Since then, he has spoken about the club’s need to invest in new talent, with gaps suddenly appearing in the squad as players prepare to leave.

Both Noble and Andriy Yarmolenko are leaving at the end of the season, while there could be further departures, and Nobes says that new blood is needed.

Speaking to West Ham’s YouTube channel, he said: “Obviously we’ve got quite a big summer coming up, because we’ve got a few players out of contract, a few players leaving.

“We’re probably two or three players short as it is now so we’re going to have to add to the squad.

“For obvious reasons the dynamics of the dressing room is going to change because I won’t be there and you’ve got people like Yarma (Andriy Yarmolenko), who is an experienced pro, I read something that he will be going.

“So there’s a few out of contract that might not be there. But me knowing the manager and the staff here they’ll get whipped into shape quickly and be ready to play next season.”

As he said we need two or three now, more if a few leave. This is an optimum summer.
