Noble: “There’s no point in standing here and lying”

Mark Noble was among the also rans representing the Irons last night an to his credit was at least ready to give an honest appraisal of the awful result at Leicester City

The club has to provide a player to talk with the media after each game and this time it was Mark Nthat oble and his quotes are now attributed to Premier League Productions demonstrating the ever increasing hold the PL has over the game at large.

To be honest there was no way anybody could gild the lily over what we saw last night where but for the presence of Mikey Antonio we would probably have shown nothing offensively whilst at the back Oggy and Randolph were outstanding.

The captain – like the rest of midfield – was given the runaround big time and he was ready to admit we deserved nothing from a game where the gulf in class between the two team was, frankly, frightening

And speaking afterwards and reported at https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/january/22-january/mark-noble-there-no-point-lying-leicester-were-better-team  he said: “Obviously going 2-0 down just before the break was a kick in the teeth and we came out and got a goal straight away and then, for 15 or 20 minutes, we were in the game,” Noble told Premier League Productions. “We had a couple of chances from corner kicks and then [they won and scored] the penalty and after that it was finished.

“They’re a good side. They do move the ball well and they make it hard for you. I think if we’d have got anything it would have been a bit lucky, if anything, because we didn’t play that well.

“But we’re still in the game at 2-1 and probably should have gone in [at half-time] at 1-0. I thought there was a foul in the corner which the referee didn’t give, but listen, we weren’t good enough and we didn’t deserve to win.

“I thought Leicester were the better team. There is no point standing here and lying. They were the better team and once they got that third goal, which came from a mistake, there was no way back for us.”

  1. IT IS OK FOR NOBLE TO SAY WE WER’N’T GOOD ENOUGH BUT TALKING ISN’T GOING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS ” THE PLAYERS AREN’T COMMITED ENOUGH ” TRY THE CHELSEA WAY USE SOME YOUTH INSTEAD OF SELLING THEM ALL

  2. How long will it be Hugh until you publish comments telling the truth ? You are sitting back while the unfit owners suck us into the Championship and defend Noble who is truely awful . It would be interesting to know what role you think , apart from penalty taker , Noble fills . He cannot defend or score from open play and is too slow to tackle and cover in midfield . I am obviously missing the point . Please enlighten me .

    • What is truth? I’ve just written a piece – read it. This is not mine or CanH’s fault and the owners won’t leave until 2023 the earliest given they would have to pay Government 20pc of any sale. So what point in fury and protest. I’m a relaist not a bloody dreamer. You’ve been here it seems for seven comments and have no idea of my feelings. So until you are familiar with them just give me a break. Cheers

  3. Until the snail like pace of Noble, Snodgrass, Zaba, Lanzini are replaced with Premier League quality players with pace we will continue to struggle. Why we continue to renew contracts of these players is beyond me, but assume a cheaper option than actually buying what we need. And the argument of nothing is available in January, does not wash, as Leics had Ndidi and Perrara excelling last night

  4. It is time for moyes to get tough on players who do not perform ie Lanzini & players who cannot hack it ie Noble & play some youngsters

  5. We as a team dont move the ball quickly enough, this has been a trend of ours for years! making us far to easy to play against. Noble is a fundamental part of this problem, playing in that position you cant help but be a key part of the teams rhythm and pace you play at. If we had Kante and Henderson in there would be play in a languid style? No absolutely not. We dont press the ball as a unit or support the lone striker and the result is we are never a threat!
From pressing to chance creation we must be way down on the stats, the Manager needs to be onboard with work ethic and is sole responsible for the teams 90 mins work performance, unfortunately Moyes was another Cheapo Gold/Sullivan signing and was not what we needed to give these players the kick up the bim they needed. I can unfortunately only see relegation this year.

  6. We need street fighter’s who are prepared to roll up their sleeves and earn their pay, rather than players that hide, or jump out of washing machines for a laugh? Or expect other players to do their dirty work?? We need the Ginger Pele to put the wind up a few of our tippy tappy players as an advisor or coach? If and I say if we go down? These tippy tappy players will move on to another club they wouldn’t sweat claret and blue anyway unlike a few legends from the past I could go on about ? Simply some are not fit to wear the shirt for effort alone , as well as the astronomical wages some are taking ( under false pretences I might add too!) Going down will seriously affect the owners purse strings no doubt? But it might be a time for a purge to start again with people who want to come to our club to give an honest days work for an honest days pay not to fool around on 100 grand a week and jump out of washing machines for a laugh !!!
Oh well that’s my rant for the day trying to keep the faith C.O.Y.I

  7. The warning signs have been there since we moved to the OS – A big pitch, that we had to reduce in size to try and reduce our exposure to pace and movement = Bilic side was accused of being “unfit”.None of those basic weaknesses have been addressed under four managers and whoever is selecting new players. What on earth has lead us to a situation that we have five potential no10s/CAMs one capable striker(who is being made to look **** in a formation that does not suit him) one quick, but oft injured winger and four FBs (that are all hugely suspect, for various reasons) and one young player trying to quell the CM onslaught, virtually on his own??
I know we can be a fickle bunch and that is part of the DNA of a football supporter, but the majority in the stands and on line have been screaming about these weaknesses for years and Moyes is changing his mind on what’s needed ( another No10/AM apparently!) with seven days to try and save our PL status.

  8. A midfield 2 of noble and rice.
    Isn’t working.
Which of the 2 would you replace? Clearly noble.

    It’s time to admit it.

Noble as a starting midfielder for us for the last 10 years is one of the problems, not one of the solutions.

He is limited. He isn’t athletic. He has no pace.

Those limitations are the maximum of what we’ll achieve. So we have achieved nothing. Because we dont control the midfield with this guy. Maybe once or twice here and there. But not with any consistency.

We’ve needed a better midfielder for 5 years.

We needed a better DM too for the same 10 years but rice came along. We were lucky. But the noble role… We’ve never improved it.

    • Totally agree with your comment. Staying up this season depends on 2 things. Getting our injured players back asap and getting a DM in asap. With Noble replaced (as much as i love him), we would shore up the midfield allowing our creative players to have more of an effect. Right now, because he isn’t quick or solid enough, our creative players are too wary too play higher up the pitch because they have to be more aware of their defensive duties based on the inadequacies in the middle of the park.

We all know we need a DM but the main problem is why would a player good enough to go straight into the team come to a club that could be relegated? Only chance is a loan deal and there aren’t many of those around, clearly.

  9. Folks, this is the best current West Ham squad and team. Many of which are really average. Masuaku have never played a match, least of all a bevy of matches at Premier standard level. Atbest, he and Sanchez are simply awesome. Our keepers were utterly bad this season too.
Snoddy is a great dead ball specialist but further than than does not produce regular assists nor goals. Zab is massively committed, a real warrior, but slow. And so is Noble. Lanzini, Haller and Fornals are currently not sparking. And that’s what Moyes has at his disposal.
I believe Moyes will always try to improve the team, but individuals can take a long time.
Let us all give Moyes and our team the best support, knowing we can get beat every weak for class.
However, just like all the other WH teams through the years, we can achieve by virtue of good, positive attitudes, passion and commitment.
Coyi. God bless West Ham !!!!

  10. CLARET. .PLAY WHAT YOUNGSTERS? the pick of the bunch have been loaned out or SOLD

  11. OMG … Someone has turned the light on . If only the owners would also accept it . The midfield has been a problem for 5 years and Noble has been the prime cause . He is getting worse week on week and has been awful .We all love what he stands for but enough is enough . We have got rid off Kouyate , Cullen , Fernandez Samuelson etcetc without giving them a chance in their true positions all caused by the Noble must play fixation . We have not replaced anyone with a better player and are even buying back free transfers !! Hernandez and Perez given away and replaced by Adjeti for £8m . They were not good enough but he is no better … and don’t forget Hugill . Drastic measures required now before it is too late . COYI

    • Peter, there are problems all over the pitch. Haller is not good enough, neither is Lanzini and he has poor since his injury. You can slag noble off all you want but replacing him with someone else we are still not good enough. Leicester are a good side anyway, we can’t compete with them.

  12. Noble has always not been fast it’s his ability to pick out runners and hold the ball until they make themselves available if they don’t he won’t ever be as effective as he should – Pirlo or whatever his name is was slower than Noble but he was fortunate to mostly play with top players

  13. on looking at the game overall, the players were non existence, and continue to present themselves in a way of the Shambolic performance they provided. they will be odds-on for relegation and wither into championship football for years.
there is youngsters in the academy who maybe produce a structure to stay in prem league
with the remaining players named & shamed of Lanzini / Noble / Haller , they and others are totally unpresentable to wear claret/blue
this also a fact that mssrs Sullivan Gold Brady should sell their stakes in WHU and GO

  14. Oh well, championship here we come. But at least we get big Sam back, he’ll kickem all up the arse!!!!
That was the last time I saw heart, soul, guts, determination, and to be fair to Noble was the last time he showed any quality.
