Kevin Nolan has again dropped some heavy (ish) hints that his time at West Ham may be running out.
The 33-year-old has been discussing the future captaincy of the club as speculation continues to mount about his future ahead of the end of the summer transfer window.
Indeed, had there not been such outrage over the possible arrival of Joey Barton, it may have happened sooner rather than later – but it looks nailed on regardless.
In the meantime, Nolan looks to be preparing the ground for his exit with comments about his successor as skipper, and Mark Noble is his choice.
He told the official site: “He is fantastic boy. I enjoyed my time here with him, I hope he has learnt from the way I have skippered the side and the way I am with everyone.
“He tells me he has learnt a lot. He has definitely got to be skipper of this club, well that’s who I am tipping anyway, in the next year or so.
“You can see how much Sunday meant to him.”
Nothing against the bloke as a person but to earn £50-60k a week for his contribution over his time with us makes him a very lucky fella in my opinion. Selected week in week out due largely to the teacher’s pet syndrome and seldom on performance, I didn’t even rate him in the Championship. He can’t run, tackle or head and any respectable child’s party entertainer could create a good atmosphere amongst the lads in the dressing room.
On the plus side he’s not a bad finisher but for someone who’s spent most of his time in very advanced positions, I actually think his goal return is pretty poor. His best quality is one he shares with Allardyce, a skin like a f*cking Rhino. I’ve been a Hammer for many years and as a result have learned never to be over-optimistic. However, for the first time in a good few seasons, I’m really looking forward to Saturday’s game, long live Bilicious COYI
Hopefully he can be brought on in a game to score his 100th PL goal, I am not sure he will be leaving before January but if he does good luck to him, he has been a great club captain !
everyone was c*nting the bloke off a few months back now youre all singing his praises lol.
Was a key player in the championship and our first season back the he became just another player on the pitch. Should have gone last season really.. We’ll only get £1-4m anyway. Just Maiga left to go now and maybe Amalfitano after his current issues
No i said he was **** last year & he was.But he aint in the starting line-up as it stands, which is what many wanted.Just because he is leaving doesnt change the fact that he is crap as a Prem player now 😉
He aint left yet, what you all writing his obituary for, lol. Thanks for what he did for two years on the pitch, thanks for captaining the players, now time to move.Does thanking him in capitals gain you extra points as a loyal fan TRB.I might try it if it does 😉
GOOD LUCK KEVIN…… Many thanks for your 4 years service to West Ham United.
Bubs, he should still be offered that role. He’s clearly well respected and it’s up to him whether he accepts or not, but at 33 could be a good move for him and us.
I know everyone thinks I hate him because I have pushed for his removal, but last year I championed for him to be given a player / coach role under his dad but he was pushed into playing out of position just to give him playing time and it made him look bad,
The way we our playing now does not suit his strengths, he is not a defensive Midfielder,
His strength was getting from back to front scoring 10 to 15 goals a season and leadership,
I hope he finds his team for a couple of years and before I die it would please me no end to see him back as a Manager,
But it’s time to go and for him the quicker the better
Though i will be delighted to not see him starting for us anymore the unity that he brought to the team can never be under-estimated,the other players clearly feel alot towards him.I never believed he is the type of player or man who will just be happy to sit on the bench earning a wage.He will go somewhere where he can be of use & to extend his career imo.He is past his sell by date for the Prem & should never have been a given in the team last season, that was laughable, but he will still do a decent job in The Championship or League One.Still, the facts are the facts,he doesnt score anymore & pants & puffs like an old man,he was crap last year & doesnt deserve a place in our team.If he doesnt want splinters in his arse this season he will have to move on 😉
Thanks for everything you’ve given to the club so far and good luck Kev! He should be applauded for the atmosphere and togetherness he brought to the dressing room.
good luck to him. he did well for us til he got old.
He will be gone by the end of the window,im pretty convinced of that.No bad thing for both parties at the end of the day.
