The Daily Mirror says Kevin Nolan has travelled to Bolton on Friday to open talks with the Trotters.
Bolton fear they will not be able to afford his £50,000 wages, but are hopeful an agreement can be struck after Nolan received a £1.4m pay off from West Ham equivalent to 75% of his remaining wages.
The 33-year-old departed the Hammers by mutual consent after four years, 157 games and 31 goals in a Claret and Blue shirt.
Nolan spent 12 years at Bolton, scoring 40 league goals, before making a £4million move to Newcastle in January 2009.
The Lancashire club have recent form when it comes to re-signing their old boys — Eidur Gudjohnsen, who initially played for Bolton in 1998-2000, returned last season at age 36 and scored five goals in 21 league appearances.
However, Nolan has several interested clubs – four in London and is tempted to remain in the area – put the ‘pull’ of his former club may tip the balance.
