West Ham United‘s loan signing of Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City proved to be a difficult one for both player and club, according to former first-team coach Kevin Nolan.

“We put him in right away because we thought, ‘Get him in there and just let him play and get going,'” the ex-Irons captain told talkSPORT. “It just didn’t work out.

The England international struggled to find his feet in the Premier League after a lack of game time at the Etihad Stadium, making just four appearances for the Hammers.

Phillips’ time at West Ham was marred by errors, including a red card and a succession of poor performances, leading to questions about his fitness and form.

Despite the challenges, Nolan praised Phillips’ character and work ethic, highlighting the difficulties faced by the midfielder after a prolonged period out of the team.

The loan move ultimately failed to reignite Phillips’ career, with the player returning to Manchester City at the end of the season

A question that needs to be answered is if , Benny and Pablo had to go to make way for Phillips , either
for financial or playing reasons ?
