Nolan/Vaz Te fail to sparkle for U-21s

nolanElliot Lee scored twice as the West Ham Under-21s claimed their first win of the season last night beating Sunderland 2-0 at Upton Park.

The team included Kevin Nolan, Ricardo Vaz Te and Matt Jarvis with Sam Allardyce in attendance presumably checking his first team squad members.

And one ClaretandHugh source reckons he will have been disappointed with what he saw claiming neither Nolan or Vaz Te sparkled although Jarvis set up the first from a corner.

He said: “Nolan  was quiet throughout whilst Vaz Te missed two or three good chances.

“On the strength of this game you would imagine we would see the same starting X1 at the weekend as were at Old Trafford.”

He added: “Surely though it can’t be long before Lee gets a chance. He holds the ball up well and scores goals – he has to be in the frame.”

  1. It is difficult to see how Lee will get first XI playing time. Sakho’s place is set in stone and Valencia will have to play poorly to be dropped.
Add Carroll into the mix in a few weeks time and we would have to suffer futher injuries to give Lee a glimmer.

  2. Was hoping Nolan would only be a fringe player now. How can you bring him on when you have Zarate on the bench. When will Allardyce learn he has better players in his squad then his ‘mates’. Hopefully after Nolan’s display in the Under 21’s last night he will realise he’s passed his best – there again he will probably be back in the starting line up as captain this weekend!

  3. Is Kevin Jarvis Matt’s brother? 🙂 good to see him back, he was the one shining light in pre season and was really unlucky to get injured when he did.

I hope Nolan has to play his way back into the first team and is picked on merit not just out of blind loyalty.

Vaz Te just isn’t good enough in my opinion & I think we have much better options in the squad now.

  4. Leopards don’t change their spots…of course Nolan will walk straight back in Allardyce will never willingly leave Nolan out. When Carroll is fit we will revert to like. Its obvious Allardyce is no fan of Zarate, and certainly not of Morrison, a pl;ayer that would fit the diamond like a glove. Lets face it, unless their face fits with big Sam forget they are in the squad !. I wonder how many goals Elliott Lee has too score to even make the bench. We brought on Mr Loyalty Cole at Old Trafford …..United down to ten men, he still didn’t come close to scoring. Young Lee would have run their defence ragged as the extra man.
Lets hope Noble is fit for Sunday otherwise lets guess who will be Captain.

  5. What drop the disappointing and not fit Nolan for Zarate or the free scoring Lee.You’ll have Sam laughing his head off.

  6. BFSam’s team selections has been in question for some time.As Hammerman6 suggests Elliott Lee would have been a better option than Cole.He is certainly no “genius” as some suggest after a win. With the squad changes we need a manager who selects players on form and ability and not some misguided loyalty.I too like the look of Jenkinson.
