Reports that West Ham could return with a bid for Tammy Abraham have been described as ‘nonsense’ by a top Hammers insider this morning.
Speaking exclusively to Claret & Hugh, the top West Ham source responded to a story that has gained momentum in recent days. The former Chelsea striker was reportedly on West Ham’s shortlist of potential replacements for Danny Ings, should he leave the club.
However, West Ham have dismissed any speculation that the Roma forward might join the London Stadium.
This follows yesterday’s announcement by football transfer ITK Fabrizio Romano, who stated that Abraham’s move to the Saudi Pro League was not imminent.
West Ham remains in the hunt for another striker, but as clarified to C&H, the club will need to sell players first following a transfer spree that has seen eight new arrivals during the current window.
The club are actively looking for buyers for Maxwel Cornet and Danny Ings who is believed to have rejected a move to his former club Southampton.
If we could afford Abrahams & the the German, why didn’t we buy Duran, a fit young mobile striker, instead of a 31 year old & a injury prone one.
It’s the question I have also been asking myself. And as I’ve been saying for six weeks on various sites, Duran was hands down the best option for us now and into the future. He’d have been an investment because, if he continues on this trajectory, he will be worth 70 or 80 million in a few years. Given the wide men we already had, I don’t understand why we signed the young Brazilian. There didn’t seem to be a plan. And I think Fullkrug was a desperate buy – the striker we ‘settled for’ rather than the striker who would really take us forward. Serves us right that Duran came on to score the winner at the weekend.
I’m also mystified why we would not sign Duran as a priority replacement for Antonio, no matter what the cost as an investment for the future but spend £25m on an inexperienced Brazilian! Make’s no sense and I’ve not seen anything yet to suggest that Fullkrug is any better than Ings. The club desperately needs to bring the average age of players down, good youngsters can run all day long and energise the player’s around them. So pleased we’ve a Manager that doesn’t go in for amateur dramatics on the touchline but remains calm and thoughtful in decision making.
Duran should have been the first option in for striker. I’m not against Füllkrug at all but I do think if he is a player we wanted he should have been the one depending on existing player sales.
I’m so pleased to see Tammy Abraham isn’t on our radar, to me that looked like Andy Carroll all over again.
It’s all about priorities, get that right and the cost isn’t increased by cheaper options costing more to correct.
