“Not Finished Yet” | Füllkrug Faces Battle of the Beats

West Ham striker Michail Antonio now faces a serious challenge with the imminent signing of German striker Niclas Füllkrug.

This season was always going to be tricky for Mikey, but many expected the Hammers to spend big, with players like Jonathan David and Ivan Toney linked to a move to West Ham. It could be safely assumed that players of that stature would likely have greatly limited Antonio’s game time, but with Füllkrug, it’s not so certain.

I suspect West Ham’s record goal scorer will rise to the challenge that the Dortmund striker presents, making for a fascinating competition.

Antonio, West Ham’s record Premier League goal scorer, might fancy his chances of getting more minutes than he would have had West Ham spent £40-50M on a striker. At that level, any new signing is virtually un-droppable, but at €27 million (£23M) and a relatively low wage, there isn’t the same pressure to start as there would be with a marquee signing.

Füllkrug is a decent target man but hardly prolific. He has only reached double figures on five occasions throughout his senior football career, with two of those seasons in Bundesliga 2. It’s also worth noting that Julen Lopetegui once tried to sign Antonio when he was at Wolves.

Therefore, I’m not ready to consign Mikey to the scrap heap just yet. If he’s willing to remain at West Ham and fight for his place, this story could have a surprising twist.

Do one Antonio I’ve seen more clinical hedgehogs than you. Go and play your old man’s football for Jamaica and talk about yourself some more on your *****cast. You are aboit as welcome as constipation

Agreed Antonio has been involved in best moments of last 10 years and 10 years prior to that in fact last 20 before that are terrible all bar a couple of fleeting moments. Antonio is a bit quick with his words on podcast and camera but when Henry was asked who would he most like to play alongside in todays premier league he said Antonio as he can be unplayable and causes so much havoc would make for loud of scraps for Henry. So give him some credit from his first season where he scored on last game at Upton Park he has always given everything and so he does have made every now and then but when he is on it he nightmare for defenders

Battle of the beats sounds very funky! Are they doing a dance off to decide who starts against Villa ?

At the very least, Antonio is well worth his place in the squad. He’s still a nuisance to defenders and goalkeepers alike. If West Ham sign Duran, I think Antonio will leave because he just wants to play.
