Slaven Bilic has made it clear he will resist all bid for Andy Carroll when the transfer window opens.
The Hammers hopes are pinned on Carroll up front with Diafra Sakho and flop Simone Zaza certain to be on his way.
Carroll’s future has been uncertain but Bilic insists he will stay despite a shocking injury record and adds that the days of treating him with caution are over.
The manager said: “Maybe before it was always holding him back and that could be one of the reasons why he was getting injured. “Unless you are talking about extreme examples you are more likely to get injured if you are not training.
“If you are training with a good rhythm every day – and I can give you hundred of examples like that – (you can stay fit).
“Of course you have to be cautious with Andy because of his history, but if he is feeling good let’s build on that. Why are we thinking negative?”
Andre Ayew returns to the Liberty for the first time since his £20 million move to West Ham last August.
But Bilic said: “He’s had a big injury, he came back a few weeks ago and now he need to train. Then he needs games to be the Ayew from last season or two seasons ago.
“He’s getting back. He’s becoming better than he came in his first game and it’s only a matter of time.”
Love Andy but time to get something back . 10 games a year if we are lucky ….
