West Ham United will travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, September 25th. The match promises to be an exciting encounter between the two historic clubs.
Hopefully Liverpool`s gruelling fixture schedule may have caught up with them and we can take advantage. The fixture is crammed into a busy period for the Reds, which includes their first Champions League match of the campaign at AC Milan, with this cup fixture one of five games in 15 days.
The Irons secured their place in the third round by defeating AFC Bournemouth 1-0 in the second round with Jarrod Bowen deflecting Mohammed Kudus’ shot into the net late on.
Liverpool, meanwhile, enter the competition at this stage due to their involvement in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
The Irons have faced the Reds on six previous occasions in the League Cup – including in the quarter-finals last year – winning fourth round ties 2-1 in 1971/72 and 4-1 in 1988/89. The two clubs also contested the 1981 final, which Liverpool won following a replay.
West Ham has secured 5,819 tickets for the match and the match will kick-off at 8pm and will be broadcast live in the UK by Sky Sports Football
Yep they have five games in fifteen days and we’re right in the middle of it. They will need to rotate in what for them will be a low priority game so we have that advantage.
The way the Carabo Cup is rigged – and Carabo & Sky only want the “Big 6” to reach the later rounds, as per that Talk Sport West Ham caller – I hope we play our Under 10s and none of our so deserving travelling support waste there cash going to this game
The idea that Liverpool will be so tired 3 weeks from now that they will not be able to overcome WHU at Anfield, is a long shot. Hopefully Lopetegui has a plan based in tactics and strategy and will have had enough time with his squad to share it. There is no good time to play Liverpool or City.
Seeing as we possibly have the worst record of any PL team at Anfield, I am not expecting much we should probably try for a 0-0 draw knowing the game will go straight to penalties.
