“Not His Fault” | Steidten Distances Himself From Lopetegui Appointment

Hammers News has sensationally revealed that West Ham’s director of football, Tim Steidten, does not want his name associated with the hiring of new head coach Julen Lopetegui. In a move perceived as an attempt to distance himself from the appointment, blame has been firmly placed at the feet of the Hammers’ chairman, David Sullivan.

Most West Ham fans had assumed that Lopetegui was Sullivan’s choice; however, the article suggests that Steidten warned against appointing the Spaniard. Hammers News cites journalist Graeme Bailey, who asserts that while Steidten finalised the deal for Lopetegui, the Spaniard was not his choice.

Bailey appears well-briefed on the situation, and one can only assume that Steidten is aware this information will reach the public. The Irons’ head of football has previously aroused suspicions about his contacts within the media, as seen this summer when select journalists leaked news about Jean-Clair Todibo and Mohammed Kudus’ buyout clauses.

This situation does not bode well for West Ham, as the director of football seems to be throwing the chairman under the bus regarding the appointment of the former Real Madrid and Spanish national boss. This bombshell creates an unwanted and awkward dynamic between Lopetegui and Steidten, which had previously seemed positive. Last season, Steidten was banned from the West Ham training ground and the London Stadium dressing room by former manager David Moyes, who believed the director of football had a conflict of interest.

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

  • Phil Baker says:

Lopetegui then NOpetegui and now GOpetegui . Watched every team and every game and there’s no sign of cohesive tactics . The worst manager in the league will relegate Westham if he continues like this .

  • Tiimmys Mum says:

I think we all know that Lopetegui was a will Salthouse client. No surprise to anyone that Sullivan appointed him as manager. I don’t know why anyone would think it was all down to Tim Steidten.

  • Martin61 says:

Has Tim distanced himself from signings of Dino and Tobido yet?

  • Robert Schmidt says:

    Bring back Bilić!!!!!!!!

  • Tezzard says:

It was public knowledge at the time that Sullivan made the decision to hire loppy. Which is not how it should be , should be the dof. So I do not blame Tim for pointing this out . Once again the cannot hand over full control .
