The thorny issue of West Ham’s likely summer departures gets another airing this morning: The Hammers have yet to line up any sales for their more -erm- ‘experienced’ squad members so news that a Premier League side is sniffing around a first team favourite is bound to get a mixed reaction. Fans will be immediately concerned owing to the numbers of goals contributed by the individual under scrutiny however the bean counters at the club are likely to be desperate to offload any of the side worth a few million, with buyers reportedly scarce at present.

So Tomas Souckek, reported again today as being attracting interest from Burnley, could well be sacrificed as a sellable asset – although the jury is still out as to whether the Premier League’s new boys Burnley can afford the Hammers’ price tag . According to Caughtoffside.com:

“Burnley are in the market for a new central midfielder this summer and have identified Soucek as a potential target. However, the overall package of a deal could price him out a move to Turf Moor before the 1 September deadline.”

According to their article, “The midfielder, 30, does not figure in Graham Potter‘s long-term plans at the London Stadium.”

41 Goals for West Ham makes him a high-risk sale – with others surely ahead of Soucek in the order of priorities for summer sales. Whether Tornado Tom will be able to fit into the new-shape midfield which Potter and Macaulay are supposedly planning remains to be seen.

What is abundantly clear is that the Alvarez/Rodriguez/ Soucek gruesome threesome certainly won’t remain in it’s 2024-5 guise as the Hammers go shopping for pacy creative youngsters and will have Freddie Potts and George Earthy banging the door down in the summer.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Soucek at 30 – suggested ‘not part of Potter’s long term plans’

However Tomas Soucek is an integral part of Potter’s two year transition plans to transform the side into Premier League title challengers.

Vital to keep Tomas for the foreseeable future. Very difficult to assemble a side full of 22 to 24 year olds and expect them to survive a season in PL. OK to try that building excercise when we are in Division One and nothing to lose but total nonsense at the moment.
