Luton v West ham

A victory for West Ham would see them finish the day top of the Premier League table. It would be the first time we have led the top flight having played at least four games since October 1983 (eight games played)

After losing both of their Premier League matches this season, Luton could suffer defeats in each of their opening three matches of a league campaign for just a fifth time in their Football League history, after 1927-28, 1935-36, 1996-97 and 2002-03 (all in the third tier).

Both of West Ham’s past two Premier League games have been 3-1 wins for the Hammers. David Moyes’ side last won three consecutive league matches in January 2022, while not since August 2021 have they scored three or more goals in three consecutive top-flight matches (a run of four).

Luton have so far lost 4-1 against Brighton and 3-0 against Chelsea in the Premier League this season. The only team to lose their first three matches in a top-flight season by three or more goals is West Bromwich Albion, who did so way, way back in 1890-91.

The two teams have squared off 90 times in all competitions since 1900. They have contested these games closely, with the Irons having a narrow 33-32 lead in wins and 25 games ending in draws.

This is the first meeting in any competition between us since March 1994, when Luton beat West Ham 3-2 at Kenilworth Road in an FA Cup quarter-final replay.
