Nottingham Forest 0-3 West Ham
Hermansen:6 Put under huge pressure by Forests giants at corners but didn’t have a save to make in the first half. 1 min into the second half had a comfortable save to make from Woods’ header.
Walker Peters:7 Heart in the mouth timed as his tackle dispossessed Hudson-Odoi in the box to loud appeals for a penalty. Good clearance from a cross shortly afterwards.
Mavropanos:8 Spent a lot of time defending the box with his mate Kilman in the first half.
Kilman:7 Covered well for Diouf on a couple of occasions. Stood up to the arial bombardment really well.
Diouf:8 His defensive qualities were severely tested at left back and given a real examination by Ndoye. Found Fernandes with a good pass. Made an excellent clearance at the far post in the second half to deny Gibbs White. Curled over a wonder cross for the Irons third.
Soucek:6 Moved the ball far too slowly which allowed Forest to win possession too frequently. Two good back post headers from corners were very important. Scrapped really well as West Ham went ahead.
Ward Prowse:4 Outclassed by Anderson early in the game but kept at it and worked hard as always. At the risk of repeating myself, JWP is second to the loose ball. Whilst Soucek still has his moments like clearing headers, Ward Prowse appears to offer nothing of benefit aside from graft.
Fernandes:7 Making his Hammers debut on the left of midfield. Always committed but I would have liked to see him central more. Set up Paqueta for the Irons first shot on target then did the same to provide Fullkrug for a shot in the 2nd half. Very promising.
Paqueta:8 Began the game as a No 10 but given licence to roam, looked to link well with Fernandes. Paqueta’s ability to win a foul was crucial in relieving the pressure on his defence. Should have score from Bowen’s cut-back on 47 mins. Fully committed but some of his passing was atrocious. Slotted home the penalty beautifully won by Summerville.
Bowen:8 Back in his favoured position as Potter changed formation. Good dribble to supply Paqueta with an excellent chance as he found more space in the second half. Perfect left foot curling finish put West Ham ahead. Incredible run at the end of the game almost yielded a goal.
Fullkrug:3 Headed over from a corner after 2 mins then repeated the trick from West Ham’s next corner ten mins later. Gave the sort of display that will have West Ham looking in the transfer market for more striking options. A passenger until he had a shot 1o mins into the second half.
Substitutes
Wilson:8 On for the ineffective Fullkrug on 63 mins. Immediate impact as he used his quick feet to force a corner. Forced another corner later with more impressive footwork. Scored our third at the far post to seal the win.
Irving:6 On for Ward Prowse in 74 mins and was better.
Summerville:8 On for the last 10 mins for the impressive debutant Fernandes. Played his part straight away as he helped set up Bowen to score. Almost immediately Summerville charged down the pitch to win a penalty for the Hammers. What an impact.

Fullkrug 3 ??
Trouble is that he is on his own and having to defend too often. No coincidence that the forwards do so much better after JWP departs. Fullkrug given bad press for WHU playing style up to then.
In the end, JWP tactics worked so well. Fullkrug played his part. OK, not a 9 – but 3 is not fair. Put an 8 behind him instead of the 4 (JWP) and watch this boy go.

Fair ratings across the board Gonzo. And credit Potter (8?) for keeping his nerve and making the necessary changes.
Gonzo can you speak with your ITK please?
Prowse has to go, he adds nothing.
It’s so frustrating that Potter keeps playing him, it’s like playing with 10 men when he’s on the pitch. He is slow and absolutely clueless. Everyone except him played really well today and I felt proud for the 1st time in a while, but he has to go.
Otherwise a very happy Hammer and looking forward to some banter at work tomorrow regarding our beloved team ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️
Can we keep Irving. good off the bench to close the game down.
Agree completely. Faster, stronger and better than JWP.
Wow what a relief, how long is it since we won 3-0?
Everyone seems to have done well except JWP and Soucek. Why does Potter persist with players that failed most of last season and all of this season?
Slow and not creative or defensive, if he isn’t going to play academy players we still need more signings to get these two out.
Great win. Text book. Nullified Forest for 80 odd minutes then Bought on the players to make the difference when Forest legs were tired. Potter getting a player he wanted in Fernandes makes a big difference to the midfield. No one’s going to give Potter credit when they’ve been slagging him off so much but I will give him a lot of the credit for that win.
Irving might be leaving and if so, so be it, but he looked technically gifted and at ease – I think he’s a better player than we know. He’ll be a good squad player if he does stay and after you never know. There is a real competition for places in the midfield now.
Diouf and Summerville! combined well together immediately,
Fernandes & Paqueta = Payet & Lannzini, Brooking and Devonshire…
hats off to Wilson he was skillful.
I hope we do not get another left-footed centre-half so have to stay 4 at the back. Mavros really is much more commanding at the back than the others. I know he is rash and it will probably happen again, but he’s a good player to have at the back – solid, goes forward and can pass.
SUMERVILLE PROVIDED THE SPARK MATE MADE THE DIFFERENCE
Please Please, DO NOT Start JWP Again
Faultless display in goal and he gets a 6?
Grateful for the win , however the match was a coin toss until the brilliant Bowen and Summerville intervened . I’ll sleep easy for two weeks .
How can we think selling Irving for £3m, makes sense? His wages are low so little savings there. Not a regular starter but reliable, calm and clearly likeable guy. Would much prefer to see him/potts/new french player in the team than JWP. JWPs Always second to the ball and cant remember him winning a 50:50…. Soucek might be slow but never stops running and his lack of technical ability is not so noticeable with Fernandes/pacqueta partnership and he does a lot of hard graft. Lots of positives today and Wilson looked like he did when he played against us, which is a great sign!
Now thats more like it! Fernandes what a debut and deserved a 9. Comfortable to take the ball in tight spaces and turn his player and really promising link up with Paqueta. Wilson got a great goal and annoyingly took the ball off Jarrod’s toes just as he was about to get a worldie. Brilliant to see Sommerville back with his pace and ability to get past defenders and win the penalty. Think that puts all the rumours to bed about Paqueta leaving with his goal celebration. 3-0 win away and yes there are still niggles about JWP, Freddie should have come on instead of Irving but thats for another day. COYI.
Humble Pie for a late Sunday lunch for.a few posters one imagines?
Even a stooped clock is right twice a day.
Potter finally gave up the failed system and did as many have been asking 4-3-3.
Also very obvious things started to happen once JWP was removed and surprise £3m Irving is way better.
You clearly have a different perspective, it just happens to be wrong
That was good to see today
Take two points off of Wilson for denying Bowen the goal of the season and one if Bowens best goals ever to make it 4 nil. Add 1 point to Souchek for his doing the dirty work that goes unnoticed by most.
Fullkrug wasn’t great but a 3 is a bit harsh
Agree.
Needs to hold up play better and thought he could have done better at corners, but came back to cover when needed.
1 swallow does not predict a spring but some green shoots emerging.
Piease bench / sell JWP!!!!!
