Novelty of London Stadium wears off

stanleyThe novelty of the London stadium appears to be wearing off as West Ham struggle to sell tickets for the first ever League Cup fixture at the stadium against Accrington Stanley.  Despite tickets starting from a tenner season tickets are not convinced and tens of thousands of tickets remain available for the Wednesday  evening encounter on 21st September.

The league cup entered general sale on Thursday this week after failing to sell out to 52,000 season ticket holders and over 50,000 Claret Members and those on the season ticket waiting list. The online ticket map shows thousands of tickets still available and it appears the novelty value of the new value has already worn off.

In theory Accrington Stanley could be allowed up to 15% of the 57,000 capacity stadium meaning they could demand up to 8,550 tickets. West Ham appear to have reserved the whole of the Sir Trevor Brooking for the away club.

Stanley have priced their away allocation tickets at £15 for adults/Under 21s/Over 65s and £5 for the Under 16s

It will be in Stanley’s favor for West Ham to sell as many tickets as possible as each club receive 45% of the gate money with 10% of  the take going to the football league. Accrington Stanley would need to agree to any tickets given away for free to Newham residents under the community scheme agreed in the concessionaire contract.

  1. I don’t think the novelty has worn off, we wouldn’t have sold out the Boleyn either for an early round tie against lower league opposition in the third most important competition

  2. So i can understand why fans are not coming to watch Accrington at home, coz we wanted an away draw. My friends very rarely came to early League cup matches at Upton park, also quiet a few did not even come to the big one against Millwall. It’s a shame WH always seem to get smaller clubs at home in early rounds of this competition and nearly always struggle to get a result, in other words play crap haha.

  3. i agree with what’s been said, even old Trafford, City, Liverpool, the gooners, the spuds etc would struggle to sell this type of game out, as for Chelski they would comp 10000 tickets just to fill an end. Having said that if I wasn’t on holiday I would have attended but each to their own we are growing into a new stadium these are things that need time, as seasons go by and if our fan base outside of the East End and Essex grows we should get better attendances 🙂

  4. Novelty wearing off.Come on we are playing Accrington Stanley for fecks sake.Getting 57k for that would be crazy 😀

  5. Got to be honest but anything over 30k would be a result, as previously mentioned we wouldn’t sell out UP for these games.

  6. But we did sell out playing nobody teams in the Europa League, I though the London Stadium effect would last longer and those who did not get season tickets or unlikely to get Premier League tickets would grab on to a chance to watch the Stanley 😉

  7. Europa league is a different draw for fans than playing Stanley in the league cup
