Following on from the Jhon Duran article earlier and the disappointment and sense of let-down over the failure to land West Ham’s principal striker target of the summer, comes a report detailing the club’s further ambition to land a young, high calibre forward in this January Window.
The 22 year old in question, a French International at u21 level, is Elye Wahi, another young goalscorer with whom I remember West Ham being linked in the August window.
Reported just this evening by Get Football News France:
“The Hammers have made contact with Olympique de Marseille regarding Elye Wahi (22), according to a report this Monday from L’Equipe. The Hammers would reportedly be keen to sign the France U21 on loan with a near-mandatory €25m option to make his move to London Stadium permanent”.
Which sounds as if West Ham are working hard to try and bring a decent striker in this month.
Wahi, 22, was described as ‘one of the top ten most valuable u21’s in Ligue 2 earlier in 2024.’ He also scored against Arsenal in last year’s Europa League which only makes him all the more attractive.
Not sure if Marseille will want to loan or sell him in January – this one depends on how much the young Frenchman wants to make it to the Premier League: As the report concludes:” L’Equipe adds that Marseille have no intention of parting ways with Wahi, but the situation could change in the event of a market opportunity, and if Wahi does want to play in the Premier League.”
Which means ‘if the bid is big enough”, everyone has their price.
No chance if a story from a foreign paper ……
You know who would be a good addition … ANSU FATI , who played in Barcelona then he was out for a while with injury and then was loaned to Brighton last year to recover and now they need to lay him off for the financials.
Looked this guy up before, he is trouble with a capital T, makes Duran look like a Sunday school teacher, AVOID .
I know he is/was highly rated
But when you can’t get in the side ahead of Maupay, doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence
Isn’t he a wrong un
“Wahi, 22, was described as ‘one of the top ten most valuable u21’s in Ligue 2 earlier in 2024.’ “
Is that really a glowing endorsement? 😂
oops, sorry, my mistake, was “league1”. late night last night when I was hunched over my keyboard writing that!
All good mate it happens to the best and the rest of us. Normally I’d be interested enough in football to be keeping up with who’s where outside of the Premier League so I wasn’t even correcting a mistake if I’m honest, I thought it was fact. My interest has been rekindled in the last week though!
Going for another striker who’s not played in prem 🙄..been here many times before…they should push the boat out for Duran..because this forwards although good , is not proven in prem . And coukd well find it to tough or get homesick in first couple months like the rest ….with Duran you know this wouldn’t happen as hes alreadyproven in prem ..loan with obligation to buy surely woukd be the best way to go ..come.on ..I’m.not saying pay what they want..but negotiate
2bh, I think Calvert-Lewin is probably the best that we can expect if Everton are prepared to let him go cheap this Jan. He’s English, in decent fitness and form this season, if not among the goals, and with something to prove. Won’t break the bank and allow us to look for a more permanent solution in the summer. I’ve always believed we don’t need a 20 goal a season centre forward- just someone who can run channels cause problems and bring others into play.
1 goal all season and earns in excess of £100k p/w and has an awful injury record. Sounds like a typical Sullivan signing to me.
With Wasserman securing us Potter, Summerville and Kilman. Calvert-Lewin and Dewsbury-Hall are also represented by Wasserman so I expect both to join us in January.
I’d take Dewsbury-Hall but swerve DCL at all costs.
Signing DCL would undermine all the good work bringing in Potter has done. We might just as well stick with Ings and push Kudus through the middle as to sign a another injury prone non goal scoring striker.
Maybe Google him and find out what has done in the past…seems a lovely fella
I must admit I love reading these news items as you have to have a good imagination ,take everything with a pinch of salt and always a sense of humour, who really will come to us that’s going to make an immediate impact and we can afford, that market will be very limited ,so be prepared to be underwhelmed with any new additions
I thought there was a maximum Loan allowance of 2, in our case Soler and Tobido- so unless we are going to sign one of those early, perhaps with extended payments not sure how we can do this. I might be completely wrong on the rules however-lol
Two domestic loans Simon, there are a number of clubs with more than two loans.
Sullivan is back in charge of transfers so what could possibly go wrong? 🤣🤣🤣
Already a low ball offer for Duran has been submitted and rejected #standard
Wasserman and Will Salthouse are the go to agents for Sullivan. Graham Potter got the job via Wasserman who also represent Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Expect to see a few more typical “we tried” efforts like Duran and Rashford before we sign an out of form, poor goals to game, injury prone striker on over £100k p/w that will be impossible to get off the wage bill.
See you soon Dominic!
After Graham’s appointment, I’m really hoping that our transfer policy will change this window. I can’t imagine that after turning down a lot of other offers, he would have joined us without having a big say in incoming and outgoing as he rebuilds his squad. Sullivan has a woeful record with transfers and after all the recent unrest with Steidten it was interesting to hear Graham repeatedly saying how everyone needs to be “aligned”. I took that as a very strong hint that he will not stand for another repeat of what has happened here in the past and his experience at Chelsea. We certainly don’t need any more injury prone strikers on £100k a week, and agree we have had more than our fair share over the years.
It will take a lot of time and patience and it is essential that the board give Graham their full support starting with no meddling with transfers and let him and his team get on with the job. I can see him being a huge success here especially with his support for our Academy, and hope we can get another good performance and result tonight. COYI.
