Obiang and Reid dropped from Europa League

|

ObiangPedro Obiang and Winston Reid have been dropped from the third qualifying round of the Europa League against Astra FC.

They join Andy Carroll, Samuel Westley and departed Stewart Downing  who were dropped in the previous round.

Their squad places have been taken by new signings Angelo Ogbonna and Carl Jenkinson who have been added to the 25 man A squad ahead of Thursday’s night game.

The 23 year old former Sampdoria midfielder Obiang has been notable absentee in Europa games and pre season friendlies with first team coach Julian Dicks suggesting he has picked up an injury.

The defensive midfielder who scored three goals in 34 appearances for seventh placed Sampdoria last season in Italy was due to play in last Thursday’s Europa League game against Birkirkara in Malta before being replaced by Matt Jarvis.

Why does everyone think the worst? I highly doubt Obiang has gone awol he’s probably picked up a knock and is worst than first feared but they probably don’t want to risk him for the Europa league with the season starting so soon!

Since the first round when it was actually nice to see the line-up before the day of the game, are selections have been very cagey. Even the friendly against Colchester was left to the last minute for the line-up was to be announced.
No news on the club “Injury news” section, hasn’t actually been updated since June 25th .
Reid is a mystery as he did the pre-match media conference in Malta. Obinnagone Awol I expect.
Collins and anymore of the slow one-paced Allardyce leftovers and we will get the same result.

As we progress through the stages the games get tougher, why give your opponent more time to prepare better for your line up than necessary ? Maybe that’s wrong but possibly that is why he is not letting us know what the line up will be ?

Why drop Winston (unless he’s injured of course) as we don’t have Tommo. Or have we got the red rescinded.? If not I suppose it’d be good for one of the young lads to get chance.. Ginge looked a bit off the pace against the Maltesers..

Reid picked up a knock warming up before the Europa League game I think so maybe that is precautionary, in terms of central defence even with Tomkins suspended there are many options Collins, Ogbonna, Oxford, Burke, Kouyate any combination of those.

Pedro Obiang is a mystery to me, I wonder whats actually going on.. Something smells fishy to me
