O’Brien knows the pressure is on him

O'BrienJoey O’Brien knows he is set to come under great pressure for his place at left back as the Hammers get set for a new season.

The 28 year old was back in training today explaining : “It was just a gentle session, we were just warming up I guess for the things to come,”

New signings  Mauro Zarate and Cheikhou Kouyate were both involved along with Ravel Morrison, but there was no sign of either Modibo Maiga or Alou Diarra.

O’Brien meanwhile knows that things are hotting up in the left back position and said: ” I will be working hard to earn my place as I always do, but we have already brought some new talent in.

“And I am sure that the gaffer will be looking to bring in some more as we get nearer the start of the season, including players for my position.”

It is looks likely that his big competitor for the job on the left side of the back four ,Aaron Cresswell, will be on board before the end of the day so long as there are no late hitches with the signing.

O’Brien meanwhile declared: “We are off to France on Friday for  the next week and that will be pretty intensive I think.

“We will be working really hard I am sure and I want to get as fit and as ready for the start of the season as I can.”
