Official: It’s Pellegrini

West Ham has officially confirmed the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as the Club’s new First Team Manager.

Joint-Chairman David Sullivan told WHUFC.com: “I am delighted to welcome Manuel Pellegrini to West Ham United. He is one of the world’s most respected football coaches and we look forward to working with him.

“It was important that we appointed someone with knowledge and experience of the Premier League, who already has an understanding – not only of the teams and players we face – but of West Ham United and our ambitions.

“Manuel brings a reputation for attacking football and getting the best out of his players. We believe he will attract new talent to the London Stadium as well as improving the current squad.

“Above all, he is a winner, who knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level and is driven to continue that success. Manuel is the first West Ham United manager to have a Premier League title on his CV, and we believe that his experience, quality and proven record of taking teams forward quickly will ensure that he is successful here.

“We have listened to fans who asked us to be ambitious. We hope they agree it is an exciting appointment.

“Manuel will shortly announce the names of the new staff he will bring in and he will then get down to shaping the squad he wants. We all wish him the very best of luck.

  1. One word…l. Yahoooooooooooo!

  2. Good stuff. Great manager, great CV, got him in early, now let’s spend some cash and hit the ground running next season. Up the Irons!

  3. Let’s hope he gets the financial backing to be successful….
Welcome to the West Ham way, senor Pellegrini.

  4. On here it was reported he would be on 10 million a year. I don’t know where that figure came from but most reports are saying he will be on 5 million, half that amount. One report said it would be 5 million plus about 2 million in bonuses taking it to 7. Sky sports saying reports he will even be paid 5 million are too high and that he will be paid £90,000 per week plus big bonuses as long as West Ham continue to stay in the premier league and that Sullivan has promised him a transfer budget of somewhere in the 40 million pounds region. (Not nearly enough) I wonder what the real truth is. I guess we will never find out the exact figures and probably not know how much the net spend was until after the transfer window closes.

    • The basic is eight and with positional money it will be around 10m as we said …were he to win the League and CL it would be £16m. It’s up to wach to decide who they believe but those are the figures

    • Sky now saying 7 million. It changes by the hour. Who cares. It’s a lot of wonger but nobody would bat an eye lid over spending that much on a player and when you consider how important the manager is I’ve always wondered why they don’t earn more.

  5. Hat’s of to Sully for getting this deal over the line. Got to admit I didn’t think he’d pull it off (signature you smut fiends) lol!

Really hoping that this signals the end of sixteen seasons of pragmatic, uninspiring football and heralds the rebirth of slick, pass and move footy that I grew up watching in the sixties through to the Millenium era. Of course they’ll be the odd rik when we’re well on top, for me that’s the West Ham way. For those that don’t know Ron Greenwood based his philosophy of football on the all conquering Hungarian team of the late fifties. This is our club returning to it’s roots. When the majority of English football played kick and rush, we were the aristocrats of the beautiful game. This is why we are recognised as a historical club and one of the reasons we have such incredible support in numbers, despite never winning trophies regularly. No other club has grown as much whilst delivering so little.

Yep, today may be the beginning of going back to the future!

    COYI’s

    Genuinely excited,

  6. So excited about what’s coming. I just hope, despite all the claims about him being able to turn things around quickly, that we give him the time and patience needed to form the kind of squad we need. For me, that has to come as much from our youth system as it does from buying players. With this kind of manager at the helm, it’ll further attract decent youth prospects and I hope he bloods them.

Well done to our Board for aiming high and sealing the deal. Thank you Senor Pellegrini for taking a chance on us, and here’s hoping everyone gets behind the club and we can put an end to the constant negativity and scepticism. There’s a lot of work to do, but the sun has got his hat on…

    • I hope he is given the time and patience needed to build a good squad too. However, if he loses more than a couple of early games no doubt someone will start a poll to ask whether he should be shown the door.

  7. Just had a nice slice of humble pie with my coffee, tasted delicious, well done DS !!!
